List of games on the PS3 worth playing that aren't multiplat

black flag raises a good point: while the ps3 is quite good value for money, not everyone is going to require/desire all those features, but they're forced to do so anyways. so why doesn't sony do a different SKU that has drastically less features? because ps3 is sony's tool to win the HD war, establish a new market that (potentially) could be enormously beneficial if it truly supercedes dvd, and increase demand for HDTVs (which obviously they also manufacture). when you see a sony display in a store, it's promoting: playstation brand, blu-ray format, and bravia TVs.

edit: so it makes sense for sony to market the machine as an expensive luxury item, with enough functionality to please most technology geeks

Nicely put. It is a bit of an all or nothing with the blueray. You cant have one sku with blueray and one without since Sony also intended to use the advantages of blueray for the games too. Therefore adding the blueray not only gave the console an advantage but also fits in perfectly with their strategies for other products and markets. This isn't a case of Sony trying to rip people off with high prices as the ney sayers like to make out. You do get good value for money and you are buying a luxury item. If you dont desire those features then maybe it's not the product for you, it doesn't mean that Sony are trying to force you to buy extra stuff you dont want.

The MARKET dictates value:

If you have product A on sale for 6 months at $50 and you sell 4 of product A, that means that the consumer doesn't think it's worth $50. If you drop the price to $30 for 6 months and you sell 314 of product A then $30 is what product A is worth.

It's a basic part of any grade school economics class. And Sony is getting taken to school for it!

It's a shame. I've really enjoyed the Playstation brand as a gamer. But the economy is ass and a brutha's got bills to pay.

I wouldn't say they're getting taken to school. The PS3 is very popular in Europe and Japan, just not the US. Also as part of Sony's wider strategy which includes more things than just the games scene it has probably been a very good move for them.

Don't forget to add the X360 sold-separately wlan adapter thing and battery pack/charger (all PS3 controllers are rechargable via usb).

For me neither of these were really optional, going by amazon prices it's £55 for a wireless adapter and £30 for a decent controller... I was really suprised the 360 didn't have wireless by default, I actually asked a friend if mine was defect :oops:

You're totally ass backward in your argument. The reason the PS3 is bombing is because of all of its multimedia content!

You can still buy a 360 for £99 in Sainsburys, go home, plug it in, switch it on, play it on your HD TV and have a great time.
Everything else is optional, and, like games themselves, will be purchased in time as the consumer sees fit, and feels ready to part with the money.

Sony have pushed so hard on the multimedia aspect, it's forced them to drive up the initial price tag.

Everyone knows you can argue the point of free online and blu ray until the cows come home. The bottom line is, how do joe public respond to the price tag. The answer? Not very well if it's painfully high, and certainly not very well if the majority of games available are on the console that's over £200 cheaper.

Come on boys you need to face the flip-side of your own argument: If the PS3 stripped all of the functionality out, left the PS3 with just a terrific DVD upscaler, USB ports and free online services and was selling in-stores right now for £125.00, they'd be flying off the shelves wouldn't they?
