Your WORST Shmup Endings

Post by Sturmvogel Prime »

Not all the endings in shmups are good, there's some endings that are lame.

Here's my list

Triggerheart Exelica: Arrange Mode (Dreamcast)
Legendary Wings (Arcade)
XX Mission (Arcade)
Koutetsu Yousai Strahl (Arcade)

Especially from such a great game as XX Mission. Man, I just love UPL games...

1942 (NES). One word, and Capcom didn't even spell it right.

i was going to come in and post this, but you beat me to it, so I'll second it instead.

Don't forget, it also plays the 'game over' dirge while it gives you the congratulation message.
You're arguing for a universe with fewer waffles in it. I'm prepared to call that cowardice.

Indeed!
Does anyone know japanese and can tell me what "MITTE MITTE MITTEEEE" means? I remember Sakura in Puzzle Fighter II Turbo say something similar and I always wondered what that meant.

Ah, thanks :)

I also hear the phrase that sounds like "Iktekimaaas!" in videogames a lot, too (Mushihimesama for instance). I think it means something like "Let´s go!", right?

Different contexts. "Ittekimasu," like at the start of Mushihimesama, is a sort of formality said when one leaves e.g. the house at the beginning of the day. "I'm off!", "I'm leaving!" are all reasonable translations. "Ikuze" is a bit more of a slangy imperative, and sounds slightly harsher; the "-ze" ending is a form of the emphatic "yo" which you might hear a lot in, say, a yakuza film full of cool or macho guys. Or guys who think they're cool and macho. "Let's go!" is good in this case.

Zanac (NES), 12 challenging levels rewarded in a disappointing ending.

I always found 1942 (arcade) to be both pathetic and funny at the same time.

Fire Shark on the Genesis. Kinda a checkerboard screen with the ever popular "Congratulations!".

Wow, that is actually quite fullfilling :D
We give up! It means you either won the war or this was the biggest challenge Capcom staff could offer.

Not to mention that ending leaves you with more questions instead of answers?, can somebody explain me why the game designers made that, and what's she¡s really saying? (if i have a wrong translation)

Darius Gaiden might be amazing and everything but the endings...

Won't deny the engrish can be quite comedic.
