If this is to be believed, I would fear for the future of the Daioujou/Ketsui 360 ports...

Well, it is a stupid idea, however, a required minimum printrun of 6000 pcs on a Japanese release isn't really that bad. SNR sold through its initial printrun of 10k and even low sellers like Shiki 3 and RFA managed to sell at least 3000 copies.velocity7 wrote:http://kotaku.com/5064895/is-microsoft- ... developers

I think it'll be very interesting to see how well Otomedius and DDP DOJ BLX sell.

So now there should be no excuse anymore to make all future shmups region freebcass wrote:That news only relates to Microsoft US. There was never a chance in hell that these two titles were ever going to be released (at retail) outside Japan anyway.

Basically it confirms that it's region locked, that poms "aren't prepared" for Ketsui, and that there definitely will be a release with proper TATE support. Oh and it's only about 40% complete at the moment.ChurchOfSolipsism wrote:I'M too lazy to get another account for a message board I'll never ever visit again in my life. You know what, I'm going to have to chalk this up to two things: A) JAPJAC asks horribly worded questions and B), he misinterpreted the response.Elixir wrote:Basically it confirms that it's region locked, that poms "aren't prepared" for Ketsui, and that there definitely will be a release with proper TATE support. What the guy from 5pb probably meant was that the Western market (most likely he was specifically refering to the US at the time) was not ready for such a release. And if we use SNR as any indication, then yes, he is correct. However, this is something of a moot point considering that Ketsui isn't going to be released in Japan until late 2009.

X-Play did a 15 second spot of 360 DDP-DOJ BLX...
If you watched the 3rd X-Play episode of the TGS'08 coverage with airdate of 10/15/2008, they featured a 15 second airtime spot of the 360 port of DDP-DOJ Black Label Extra. The host, Morgan Webb, referred to it as "Black Label Extra" rather than the full and complete proper name. It seems that she is a fan of those "old-school" shmups such as DDP-DOJ. Glad to see that the 360 DDP-DOJ BLX port got a tiny bit of airtime on the U.S. airwaves as a small tribute to shmups. It's better than no shmup coverage at all. Even G4 paid proper respects by listing Arika/Cave as developer/producer. It was interesting to see such a yoko screen of DDP-DOJ BLX with two different DDP-DOJ artwork pics flanking the actual gamescreen. And does it support true tate mode as well on a 16:9 widescreen TV monitor setup? Nah, I'd rather be content with playing with a real DDP-DOJ PCB on a Supergun or candy cab setup than on a console -- still not a bad deal for getting two DDP-DOJ games on one disc IMO. ^_~
You might recall Ms. Webb when she was an intern on the TechTV channel back in 2001. Still had that same hourglass figure and busty rack as usual (back in the day when TechTV was based out of San Francisco and how G4 is based out of Los Angeles nowdays). G4 should've kept it's IPs of TechTV and G4 channels seperate, but decided to merger them into one channel and drop some killer TechTV shows like "The Screensavers, Fresh Gear, etc." in the process. Those were some awesome TechTV shows worthy of watching. Grrr. Don't try to fix/tamper with such a winning combination of programming and alienate your TV viewers. And G4 has done exactly just that.

Most likely because she could not pronounce Dondonpachi Daioujou.PC Engine Fan X! wrote:If you watched the 3rd X-Play episode of the TGS'08 coverage with airdate of 10/15/2008, they featured a 15 second airtime spot of the 360 port of DDP-DOJ Black Label Extra. Even though Arika have nothing to do with this port what so ever.PC Engine Fan X! wrote:It seems that she is a fan of those "old-school" shmups such as DDP-DOJ. It looks like some folks at G4 messed up in listing that wrong dev then. And who should be given proper credit for the 360 port of DDP-DOJ BLX then (besides Cave)?Kiken wrote:Most likely because she could not pronounce Dondonpachi Daioujou.PC Engine Fan X! wrote:If you watched the 3rd X-Play episode of the TGS'08 coverage with airdate of 10/15/2008, they featured a 15 second airtime spot of the 360 port of DDP-DOJ Black Label Extra. Yep, that's the budget $9.99 USD PS2 shmup title that XSGames released. Makes me wonder their reasoning for the pricing on day one of release.Damocles wrote:...the same X-Play, the same Morgan Webb, that called the original Shikigami, or MLF2, impossible. I took great pleasure in 1ccing that "impossible" game.
The original Taito G-Card version of Shikigami does provide a secret extra character to play with unlocked via input command on the arcade control panel and saved to cart for posterity for play on later sessions. ^_~
Can G4 get their facts straight before hitting the airwaves with incorrect info? I guess not. Irresponsible gaming journalism at it's best here, folks.

Looks like a grand front cover to me, elaborating on the uneasy technological fetishism of the DOJ poster artwork. Just as with the original poster, I like the boldness of completely leaving out any suggestion of flying around in a helicopter and shooting bad guyz, and just leaving us with the inevitable aftermath of broken bodies and rubble. Reminds me of why I fell in love with the series in the first place

It looks ok to me.
Ok the artwork is nowhere near the standard of the original Dodonpachi Dai Ou Jou release, but it's not that ugly either.
It'll also be far prettier than any potential westernised version of the artwork.
Exhibit X: JAP

Exhibit B: PAL

Exhibit C: US

Luckily we don't have to worry about such a butcher job with DoDonpachi, Deathsmiles, Raiden 4, Ketsui, as they will probably stay firmly in Japan, phew

The original DOJ PS2 cover had very strong composition in addition to an interesting subject. This (proposed?) cover seems like two, maybe three different images were created (assumedly by Joker Jun)—then someone else combined them, 5-minutes-in-Photoshop style.
Not as if the cover of a game really matters, though.

Believe it was Winter 2009.Ceph wrote:Is that confimed? I thought the 5gp rep said winter, which might as well mean January or February 2009.

Gmintyfresh, you should run for public office. You seem to care deeply about real issues that affect real people.
(All three senko covers were terrible; it's just that the Japanese cover is anime-terrible, the European cover is color-terrible, and the US cover is mech-terrible.)
The new DOJ cover is a bit disappointing since I'm a fan of the big chunk of sky, but IIRC they already used the poster art for the DVD so I can see why they made a new one. It's a bit busy, what with having all four dolls in it, but I'll only see the spine anyway so :V
I'd assume Ketsui's "winter" date is the late kind of winter. DOJ Black Label is coming out first; I doubt they'll saturate the market with two Cave shooters within months not to mention Deathsmiles whenever the fuck that hits.
