Bleach: Dark Souls for the DS is scarily good

Post by Cthulhu »

Yeah, it's Treasure, so I should have expected this, but... wow. So much should have gone wrong with this. It's an anime-based game, it's a fighting game on the DS, and Viz had something to do with it. Yet it's quality. Loads of characters, all of whom have a pretty good amount of moves & unique attributes, a responsive & smooth combo system, plenty of gameplay modes, etc. Easily the best bargain in gaming I've gotten in a while.

For what it's worth, I don't really like the English voices all that much, but I'm willing to accept them since this was cheaper than importing the game and I actually have a chance in hell of getting friends to play it with me if it's in English.

and did they sort out the balance on the power select screen. I heard people would sit it out and wait for you to select the regular dammage and as soon as you selected the standard dammage ammout they would wang up the stars so they had a unfair advantage. This still the case?

Yes it has wi-fi play, I don't know if they've fixed the balancing issues from the first one. I never played the first one, and I have yet to actually play this one online... I rarely play anything online, although I do plan on trying out the local vs. with some fighting game fan buddies.

that's sooo cheap :P I hate internet play- it reminds me of playing with my brothers. It's cool to screw with your siblings (pulling controllers, adjusting handicaps) when you're young- totally dumb when some random internet 13 yr old does the same to you though :P

But yeah- I was going to import the 2nd one- glad this one made it over :)

I think in the first one it had a ranking mode that would not let people do that. It was just the unranked matches that had all the options. I haven’t played it in a while, though.

Handicaps are there for a reason to help people who are not so good have a chance to fight back and maybe make things intresting and fun to play.

Ceases to work in an online arena with random matches

must admit never played any of the bleach games but i hear this was a problem with the DS (from someone on shmups no less)

I enjoy the anime so a game which plays well is also very welcome with a license i enjoy

This is basically a US release of the second game right? Very sweet, I liked the second game a lot. Especially since they made Hitsugaya so beastly =) If only they'd done the same to Kenpachi.

I may have to pick up this version just to give my vote of support.

It's a US release of the second fighting game. It's not the second Bleach game overall (there are a couple RPGs and some other stuff out there that came inbetween). But yes.

From what I read on gamefaqs, I'm guessing no. I was hoping they would since I heard Bleach DS 2 is less balanced than the first one.
