Everyone remembers that darn frustrating puzzle cube that they hated and loved at the same time as a child.

Well it looks like there are now many more types...

If you though the original was frustrating take a look here:

I can do a 3x3 but I'm pretty slow
My brother has the "Professor's Cube", 5x5. Don't think he's solved that one yet... he's got one full side and most of the T's lined up.

Yeah really cool some of the polyhedra they have used. Dodecahedron looks impossibly hard however.

Just bought these today.

A long time ago I bought the original Rubik's cube, but never bothered to solve it myself, even when the manual teaches you how to. My brother took a deep interest in it, however, and he can solve it pretty easily. Once you know the algorithm it's no problem at all.

Later on he got the 5x5x5 cube and he had to look on the web for the new algorithm, but it's easy too once you figure it out. It just takes longer.

I should show him that 4-dimensional cube.

My favorites were always Rubik's Magic and Rubik's Snake (that sounds so wrong).

I bought the larger 12-panel Rubik's Magic a few years ago but became frustrated with it.

Ah yes, the infamous Clive Barker's Hellraiser's Lament Configuration Box -- which opens the doorway to the Cenobites. Solve it if you dare. This mysterious LCB puzzle was one of several methods to open the doors to other dimensions according to Barker's short story, The Hellbound Heart. There is supposed to a very intricate and elaborate origami that if one were to fold it, it supposedly opens a path to the Cenobites -- this was also mentioned in Barker's HBH novel as well. ^_~
If the idea of suffering more pain, the more instense it was, thus the greater the pleasure. Sounds like a fucked-up analogy but that is what the Hellraiser films tend to get that particular message across.

And what is Clive Barker up to these days? Seems to have given up on the horror novel/film side of business, right?

I recall when Erno Rubik brought out his original Rubik's Magic and Master Edition Magic puzzles which were distributed in the USA by Matchbox and SevenTowns. Fascinating puzzles in their own right. ^_~

For Armored Core,

Yep, this Lament Configuration Box puzzle is real alright. You had to assemble it youself as it came in kit form. It sold for a mere $9.99 USD and could be bought from your local hobby shop back in the early 1990's. It appears for sale from time to time on eBay. Watching the Hellraiser II: Hellbound film shows more of the different shapes and configurations that such a standard "cube" can assume.

The Hellraiser 4 film told in greater detail, of the background story of how this devious Rubik's Cube from Hell came to be. Many people from all walks of life have tried spending vast amounts of time and money in order to acquire this fabled Lament Configuration Box...and yet none have lived to tell about it after finally getting ahold of it. Want to learn why that is so? ^_~

I have a 2x2, 3x3 and 5x5. The first is obviously very basic and can be done in 10 seconds. The second, the one everybody knows, I can do in 2 minutes. It's the one I keep lying around at work and regularily toy with qhen bored. The 5x5 isn't much more complex, just longer to complete.

I remember finding one at my Grandparents house. I just recently got the urge to try again since I was really little. So 9 dollars later (and a delivery from the slow boat to china) and I should have two new cubes. Hopefully the Chinese have bootlegged with some quality in mind.

I really like the look of the dodecaherdon one but that would just be too much for me I think.

I clearly remember having a Rubik's Magic as a kid. I also had a spherical one with rows of brightly colored transparent "beads" that you had to line up. Not in the wiki article so I guess it wasn't an official product.

I had a Pyraminx! :o I wonder where it went?

The hardest part was the middle, obviously. The tips only had three different configurations and was very difficult not to solve :)

I can solve my 3x3 in a minute. The 4x4 isn't that hard to solve if you apply the same tricks from a 3x3, and likewise the 5x5.
Of course, that's just an opinion.

I've had the clock, pyraminx, and standard 3x3 cube before in the past. The clock I could do in 30 seconds flat, the others I never worked out.

For Jon,

That particular puzzle that you describe is none other than "The Orb" puzzle. I recall seeing it for sale at my local toy stores. Some toy stores had demos of those popular puzzles to try out before buying them. ^_~
