ChoRenSha 68k

Post by tommyb »

I am usually not a fan of freeware PC shmups, but I just figured I'd say that this is the first one I can actually say I really like. Really, really like.

I've only gotten to the second boss, but this game is a blast. I love the power-up/bomb/shield system.

Haha, thanks for the tip!

I try to stick in the middle of each ring, to collect all three, but it's tough -_-

May I also add that this game is incredibly difficult?

I still can't beat that second damn boss.

It's actually probably one of the easiest shooting games I can think of for beginners to clear. Focus on keeping your shield around and you'll go far.

Maybe, maybe not. It seems like the bullets are pretty fast.

I like to set up an autofire button with this game.
Some of the best shmups don't actually end in a vowel.
No, this game is not Space Invaders.

Strongly agree. I don't really find "make your hand hurt due to button pressing" to be a good mechanic. But ChoRenSha is tops. Took me quite a bit of practice, but I was able to 1CC it. Yay effort paying off. And yes, keeping your shield is THE key to it all.

I don't mind button mashing, but only if it's on the ctrl key.

I love this game but the sound is funky on my machine.

Via autofire buttons on your stick or pad. It doesn´t have this as an in-game option IIRC.

I agree that CRS is easier than it looks. Once I got good at collecting all three powerups at once I had the 1cc within a couple of tries -- I think I've made it to the boss of the second loop. It was damn fun, though; I haven't been able to reproduce that, and it is a fast game. Well worth playing at any rate. I can stand shields, as long as there's no evidence of a health bar...

Would this PC douijin of ChoRenSha 68k be great if it was released as a real arcade PCB?

Anybody have/can point me towards a working copy? I can only find one download link, and the .exe gives my Avast antivirus the creeps. It's a free game, right?

I've always enjoyed this as well as Rally Raid by Twinklesoft, but I lost my copy of it as my old laptop crashed.

I've created an autofire script for it here:
http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=0d48 ... 726ece03a1

Load the .exe (you should see a little green icon with a H) and you'll now have FULL AUTO on the "Z" key, bomb as usual on "X" and single shot on "C". Now launch the game.

Remember to exit the autofire script after you're done playing or your keyboard will be sorta stuck on Z and C will output Z.

(Tested on Vista 32 bit only, but should work fine on all 32 bit windows at least).

Why would you need autofire for this? You don't even have to press very quickly to get the maximum firing rate.
Of course, that's just an opinion.

Yeah, I don't understand the auto-fire problem with CRS68k either. I can play it for hours and never feel any discomfort.

Metal Slug on the other hand... That game gives me issues.

Yeah, I don't *need* it either. But since people were asking, I'd just had to flash my "awesome" programming skills.

The only game that really gives me serious arm pain is my Twin Hawk PCB.

somehow, the autofire seems to fire faster than if you were to just press the key. so I'm finishing off enemies quite a bit faster than usual, which feels kinda strange. >_>

Even the original MVS version of Metal Slug doesn't support external auto-fire hack, except for the machine gun power-up. Dissapointing to learn of that. Oh well, I guess Nazca had a reason for doing so.

CRS was the 1st shmup I ever 1cc'd. It's doable, although I was playing it relentlessly. The soundtrack is amazing.

I think this would make an incredible pcb. I'd buy one anyway.
