Post your rare finds from the wild

Post by 8 1/2 »

Anyone can go on ebay and track down a game they've been seeking, but it takes true grit to come across a gem in the wild.

The other day I came across a mint copy of Silent Bomber for the PS1 at the flea market in a bin labeled "PLAYSTATON GAMES $5". I hope to visit the east coast some day and check out Playstaton Island.

Silent Bomber?!?! That game is freaking impossible to find for me....

I guess mine was RUN=DIM: Return to Earth for the Wonderswan Color which I got August last year. I just bought my WSC a few days before so I was wandering around Golden Shopping Arcade looking for shooty-type games for it. Came across that game, looked like a shooter from the back of the box, and forked over $130 HKD or so (don't remember exactly how much but I think that was about what it cost) and was quite pleased when I got home.

Good topic, 8 1/2.

I don't know if it counts as "in the wild," but I found a copy of In the Hunt (PSX) at EB for $2.99 last fall, after having looked for it forever. The box was a bit worn, but the manual and disc were pristine...

I found a complete (or near complete, don't remember if it had the manual or not, I have to check) Shining Force at a yard sale for 7 dollars once. I also got some huge hauls of Atari 2600 games, including less common ones like Pitfall 2 and Gyruss for cheap at a couple yardsales. Other finds include two Intellivisions and some fairly rare games like Pac-Man for 15 dollars together and a Genesis with a couple of imported games for 20 dollars (maybe not the best find since the sides were cut off to fit, which works but doesn't look good, but I'm including it anyway since imports are hard to find at yard sales to begin with). I also found Parasol Stars GB for 10 dollars at a local EB. Does that count?

Not much really. My Nomad was a yard sale find though, although I didn't get an extrordinarily good bargain on it at the time.

I got a Chrono Trigger complete/boxed and at the time in damn near mint condition for $16 (unfortunatly poor storage has knocked the condition of the box down a good bit). Felt pretty good about that one. Ditto for picking up Lunar for SegaCD (6th printing) for $10 (mint condition).

more recently, I've been lucky enough to stumble on Star Soldier Vanishing Earth for $5 and The New Tetris for $15.

I wish I knew how rare Gitaroo Man was. I saw it for $8 a few weeks ago and passed on it... and now I find out it goes for like $80+ on eBay. Son..of...a...bitch. :(

oh and... <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 Silent Bomber. That game owns :(

oh yeah, I found Splatterhouse, Galaga '88, Alien Crush, Devil's Crush, King of Casino, TV Sports Hockey, and Klax for the TG-16, a TG-16 joystick, a TG-16 pad, a Saturn demo disc (no idea why that was in the box) and a TG-16 all for 3-5 dollars together at a thrift shop.

The only thing I can think of is Dragon Warrior III for the NES. I bought it at Wal-Mart. No big deal, right? This was in 1995. It was one of three NES games they still had left. The price? $24.99. Fucking score.

Got a complete/mint version of Lufia 2 for $8 a while back. I work at gamestop, and since we no longer take snes games (or nes, or dreamcast, or genesis/md, or saturn), I offered to buy it off the customer myself. Talk about a lucky break.

Meh, it's nothing special. It's a lot better than most games out there, for whatever that's worth.

I found Winning Post for the Saturn at a used videogame store is decent condition and complete for $7.

Found a disc(s) only copy of Panzer Dragoon Saga at the same store for $4. Though I let a friend of mine buy it instead, felt he should get a chance to enjoy the greatness of it. :)

Did it have the soundtrack too? If so, that's a hell of a present.

Indeed it did; the manual, inserts, game disc and music CD were all there.

Hahaha, I used to do that all the time when I worked at a game store. You can get fired for buying shit directly off customers while on the clock, but I didn't give a fuck. That job sucked.

Oh my god. I had no idea it was worth so much. I bought it back when it came out because I was hungry for an SRPG and found out the hard way that it was designed mentally handicapped preteen girls. If I can find the case for it, that bitch is going on ebay :(

Something I forgot to mention before was that I picked up Beyond Good & Evil for $10 ($40 off) after Christmas last year. Brand new. Steal and a half right there...that game was awesome.

I think it's perfectly fine that we can take advantage of things like that (hell, even my manager has done it before), because the employees get fucked over by the corporate office around every corner anyways - I like to think of it as a reparation. Examples of them screwing us over? Glad to. Discount cut from 25% to 20%, then less than a year later down again to 15%, shortening employee appreciation from an entire month in length down to a weekend (as well as lowering the discount from it as well), and of course, cutting off sales of all classic systems as well as DC and Saturn. Sorry, I love bitching about my job.

On topic: one time, someone tried to trade in a complete Dreamcast system, but we told him we didnt take those anymore and said that there weren't any places that did. So what did this guy do? He left it at the store. Since we're all pretty close together, we decided to give it to the Assistant Manager, who's a cool guy and always wanted one (and later, I turned him on to the DC's shmup library, which he still plays today)

Just today I found the PAL Capcom Generations (with 4 CDs) for 15 EUR at a local shop. Rockin'. I'll still be getting the new collection though, to have them all on the same disc, to get rid of the ugly black borders..and the few extra games don't hurt either.

I found a complete copy of R-Type Delta, complete with manual and pristine disk, in a sea of Spyros and Resident Evils. Ok, maybe not that rare, but it was a good find!

It got a brand new CD case when it got home because its old one was covered with those ugly Gamespot stickers.
