Listened to Charles Ives' Symphony No. 4, Three Places in New England and Central Park In The Dark and I am immediately sold. Very interesting with multi-layered movements and quoted melodies left-right-and-centre.

Nice one, Neon. I need to pick up another copy of that 'cause mine's just about wore out. No idea about their popularity elsewhere, but they always bring in a decent size crowd when they play here. Regardless, any record shop that stocks Mr. Childish and the Hex Dispensers sounds pretty cool to me.

I saw the Ooga Boogas two nights in a row last weekend, opening for the Hex Dispensers and Quintron, respectively. They were flipping amazing.

The recent release of Dream Theater's Chaos in Motion live album has made me appreciate Score all over again. Orchestra hell yeah

I was recently introduced to Infected Mushroom via Vicious Delicious, and it has provided me with much kickass music and a kickass desktop background.

You should check out the Jesu/Envy split that was recently released. Only available as a Japanese import at the moment but Hydra Head will be releasing in the states soon.

It's a 7" they put out on Sub Pop. I dig it. The new drummers style works well. Though I'm not a huge fan of Grails, his drumming was the highlight of their set when I saw them with Om sometime ago.

Anywho, it was released as part of some bullshit collectors subscription thing, where only subscribers received copies. So unless you feel like paying bloated ebay prices, you can't actually purchase a copy. Luckily, it's been posted on the interweb. Scroll down to the Om interview and the two tracks are posted for download.

You guys have good taste. A lot of variety here, too, which I like.

I try to appreciate everything from classical to grindcore so it's great that this hasn't devolved into flamewars bashing one or another style. I guess you guys are all mature enough not to define yourselves by the music you listen to... I spend too much time with my peers from the facebook generation who are all caught up in their dumb cliques.

I'll cull this topic for recommendations and do more serious album hunting some other time, for now I'm going to go put on that new Squarepusher you just told me about and download those Om tracks.

As for my current favourite albums... well, I don't know about favourites, but here's what's in the playlist today:

Some grind, some post-whatever, some mellow tunes, some psych-grunge, some black metal, some strange techno, a dash of hip-hop. Generally anything without words, or loud enough I can't make out the words anyhow, is what I put on to work and study, so that skews me towards electronic/classical/death more than pop/hip-hop, though like I said, I'll listen to anything at least once before making up my mind. Maybe I'll post some things that are moreso my faves later on, and you can recommend me stuff based on that.

I'm really liking the new TV on the Radio album, Dear Science.
It's a bit more accessable than there earlier music and it's definately more produced. But they still maintained creative control and it was mixed by D. Sitek. They must have just had a better engineer or something this time, because the recording quality is far superior than their other releases IMO. Every track is pretty great on this one, something I never felt about there other albums either.

Also I've been in the last Angels of Light album, We Are Him. Definately their best yet. Just a solid album with stellar playing and mixing.

Unwound - leaves turn inside you (probably my favorite album ever)
Blonde Redhead - 23 (despite being produced by butch vig, it still sounds great)
Fleet Foxes - sun giant ep (i like the new record 2)

I only listen to about three or four tracks from Dear Science at a time and then listen to something else. Doesn't have the energy of Cookie Mountain, I miss the loud swells and stuff. I'll give it a better chance soon.
