Cactus Shmups Tourney (Registration in session)

Post by Aru-san »

Intended tourney recruiting date: 2008/10/05 to 2008/11/15 (6 weeks; I'm just so antsy)
Intended tourney playing dates: 2008/11/17 to 2008/11/30 (almost 3 weeks)
Games to be played: Clean Asia, Fractal Fighter, Burn the Trash

A once-in-a-lifetime tournament (or until Cactus makes at least three more shmups in his video game dev'ing career in the future), here is finally a doujin shmup tournament presenting shmups made by Cactus! I will try my best to organize this tournament as efficiently as possible, but if I make any mistakes while hosting it, please let me know so I can avoid them in the future. Oh, and sorry if the registration time gets in the way of STGT.

Cactus Shmup Tourney (CST) will be joint with Cactus Milk (Cactus Soft official forums), who will also be participating in this tournament once it begins.

THE RULES
Simply put, play for the high score. Put up a proof pic (or a recorded run, if possible) to be put up on the high score list. As long as your score is not 0, your score will go up on the list.

THE TOURNAMENT SCORING SYSTEM
Starting November 17, you have from Monday, 7AM (PST) until Sunday, 12AM (PST) to get a high score in the game being played that week. No scores will be accepted when 12AM hits, at which I will calculate the participant scoring as follows:

1st place = participant #
2nd place = participant # - 1
3rd place = participant # - 2
and so on, and so forth.

Forum-based high scores will also be displayed as well, provided the participant ratio doesn't break 1:2.

If there are any questions regarding the tournament, feel free to ask in this thread.

----------

THE GAMES (You can get the three games here. They are all freeware. Thanks for the reminder, Pixel_Outlaw.)
Due to possible high score exploits (e.g. editing the high score file for certain games to show a high score), I will not accept scores that go under "high score" in the games. You will need to screencap your current score on the best run you did.

Also, make sure you can run all 3 games first before signing up.

CLEAN ASIA (screenshots: 1 | 2 | 3)
Combo-based scoring where you have to destroy enemy bosses in rapid succession (excluding one stage, but the scoring is very linear in that stage). Best way to show high score is to screencap on the final boss you fight before the screen fades out.

FUCK SPACE (screenshots later)
Extremely linear scoring based on how many enemies you killed. Replaces Fractal Fighter in favor of a less wait-intensive shmup.

BURN THE TRASH (screenshots: 1 | 2)
Linear scoring. Just destroy as much as you can before you either die or run out of time. Time can be increased by 1/10th a second every enemy you kill.

----------

HOW TO SIGN UP
Just say you want to participate and you're on the list. You can do this through the thread or by PM. Upon signing up, you agree that all 3 games are playable on your computer.

This is perfectly fine. Nobody is being forced at gunpoint.
Some of the best shmups don't actually end in a vowel.
No, this game is not Space Invaders.

Unless I didn't read things properly, there is something vital missing:

Are these games free or commercial?

Thanks for the reminder. I just copied and pasted this from Cactus Milk (and edited a few things), so apologies if I left that out.

Replacing Fractal Fighter with Fuck Space because Fractal Fighter takes too long (at least for high scoring players) to fully materialize the score (100pts. per frame...and scores potentially reaching 100 million may take over 4 hours to fully come through).
