I really like the most recent X.X games.

Post by Pixel_Outlaw »

So I've finally started really playing the games from X.X. At first I was a bit put off by the prerender graphics but that took a backseat to how these games play. Green Wind is not my favorite but the later games are really well done. I feel that these games are perhaps a bit underrated. They are very modern shmups and really have that dynamic fluid feel that the modern games have.

Some of the best shmups don't actually end in a vowel.
No, this game is not Space Invaders.

Yep, they're really good. I especially like Blue Wish Resurrection.

I might like them if I could play any of them without them mysteriously crashing to desktop the instant I try to run the executable.
Of course, that's just an opinion.

Yeah, they do a very impressive job of ripping off Cave games (and I mean that without a hint of sarcasm - it´s a lot better than the million bad Touhou clones). Too bad I´m on a Mac since a few years :? But looking at this new Edens Aegis game, I think I´ll steal my gfs laptop for a few hours tonight :)

BWR is a great game. Is there any way to buy official hard copies of these games or are they down load only?

Download only man. All of x.x's games are freeware, so there is really no need to worry about buying a copy.

x.x won’t even accept donations. He’s doing for free which so many euroshmups cannot...

Do any of them have tate mode? I remember installing BWR and wishing that it did... although now that I think about it, maybe it wasn't in 3:4.

None of the have TATE. Too bad really. But rotating your windows with the graphics card might work, but it'll look very squished.

Edit: No, the rotating using the video card did not work.

That could be a good thing. The character design in his games is severely lacking. Not that it matters so much, but it looks like most of them are drawn by a 6 year old. After a quick peak at his blog, it looks like he's getting better :D

Tried WINE on Mac?

I use it on Linux to play all these doujin Windows-only shmups with mostly good success.

BWR is incredibly well done. I haven't had much time to play it lately but I did find it a tad easy, as I 1cc'd it on my very first try. But Hell mode is enjoyable and it's going to take me some time to 1cc.

I've only ever played Eden's Aegis and Blue Wish Resurrection, and they both seemed really well done. If you're going to rip someone off, may as well go for the gold.
