Which Jap Import XBox360 to get?

Post by JigsawMan »

Hi,

With all the shmups that seem to be coming/due out on the XBox360 recently I think its about time I picked one up. I am in the UK and can;t seem to find anyone selling import consoles, so it looks like it will come from play asia as they tend to me import friendly.

So, do I go for the Elite or do I go for the premium? I am looking for reliability over anything else as I don;t want to be stuck with a busted import console that MS may/may not replace (or just as bad ending up with a PAL console).

Any thoughts?

cheers.

checking on the xbox website, the only differences listed are

1) 120gb hd for elite/ 60gb hd for premium
2) hdmi cable included with elite/ componant/composite for premium
3) black console/controller/headset for elite. standard colors for premium.

unless you are planning on buying up a lot of the stupidly overpriced tv shows you'll never need the 120 gb hd. hdmi cables can be had for less than $10. and a black console isn't really anything special.

you be the decide!

Course theres also the rumoured new chip set 360 slim which is supposed to be released around December.

Then again internet rumours can so often be bs.

What's the deal with HDD's on the 360 anyway? You can "install" disc games and loose the loading times, like on PS2? Or is it just for downloaded games?

Well until now it's just storage for saves and downloaded games / demos.
But in the near future you can install games to the HDD.

Trying to figure out what the best video commection will be for the XBOX. I have a Euro SCART RGB TV (Sony 21" Wega CRT) that I use for all my shmupping. This has Euro Scart inputs, if I just buy a UK Scart cable for the Jap Xbox360 will that work? I presume it will as that all I have done for my Jp Dreamcast, Saturn and PS2.

I also have a Dell 21" LCD Monitor that only has composite (yuck!), DVI and VGA inputs. Therefore will an Xbox360 VGA cable do the trick if I wanted to use the Dell monitor?

thx!

Get the Arcade version from GaijinPunch
Get a 20/60/120GB HDD here
Get a 175W UK Elite power supply

Thats what I did.

Whats the native resolution on your monitor? Unless its really old, thats your best bet. I have a new MS VGA lead here you can buy ;)

Barely on topic, does anyone know a way to tell which optical drive the system comes with without opening the box? I picked up a 60GB at Yodobashi Camera on Friday and it sounds like I'm visiting the airport every time I play a disc game. The 20GB I had back in the states had a much quieter drive in it, I'm really considering returning this one for another but no point if I end up with the same type.

With the next 360 dashboard update you will be able to install games to the hard drive. That is if you have a hard drive for your 360 in the 1st place.

So hopefully the only time you will be able to hear your optical drive is at the start when it verifies if you have an original disc or not to be able to play the game.

SCART is not that good on 360. Avoid if possible.
This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.

Looking to buy a VDU to go with the Jap 360 - has anyone tried a Dell S2209W, with soundbar?

http://accessories.euro.dell.com/sna/pr ... sku=189447

I'm unclear as to which LCD panel will offer best performance (and sound) for the 360's output, and the best leads to use.

Thanks,

HJ
