Where to buy tv mount for vertical swivel?

Post by Wonderbanana »

Firstly hello to you all, tis my first post after (finally!) registering having browsed the forums for some time :)

I am hoping that you may be able to help me.

I am currently preparing a games room *cough* office ;) and I want to mount a 32" LCD TV on the wall but be able to swivel it vertically for playing shooters that allow tate.

Does anyone know where I can get one? (I'm UK based).

Also is it safe to use the TV in this way? I ask since the manual for GC Ikaruga does say that there can be a risk of fire with some TV's if they are used vertically?

I would greatly appreciate any advice you can give :)

Cheers,
Nana

Look for the Ergotron Neo-Fle HD Wall Mount Swing Arm . Loads of places in the UK stock Ergotron stuff (but it is expensive).

Click "Show Animation" and you can see how it rotates vertically.

That's exactly what I'm after, brilliant! And a big thank you! :)

My only concern now is the TV itself. How safe are they to run vertically?

Do I need a specific model or are the risks overated?

I assume the risk is from overheating?

For LCD TVs it should not be an issue running them in vertiical mode. I have a 3 monitor setup with 2x 21" Panels in vertical mode and a 24" in Hori mode. The 24" does rotate but I don't like it that way round. I never get any problems with the displays.

As to what model TV to get, there are just too many to choose from when I was looking. I likes the panasonic ones with a very thin bezel, but they were quite deep. Samsung are very cheap in the UK at the moment but I think the panels they use vary in quality between screen sizes. Amazon seem to be a good place to buy TVs from.

Response time will be the most important thing when playing games.

Misco have a 26" LCD Monitor for £240 inc VAT iwth a 2ms response time.

that would be a cheap start, but I know you were after 32"

cheers.

I have access to a Samsung 32" LCD TV which I had originally earmarked for the mount.

The only thing is there are (I think) no side vents on it and everyone keeps tellling me that without side vents it could overheat and catch fire.

If not maybe I'll check out one of the panels you mention :)

I've been googling all day, still can't find any info on it though.

I will try to get my friend to link the swivel mount he has on his 42" Plasma. It works like a charm.

Check out the PDF Manual for the Samsung TV's (lots of different ones though) http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/conte ... g-0523.pdf

right at the end of the document it tells you a list of safety precautions like don't put a duvet over the screen etc etc. Nowhere does it mention that you have to keep it in horizontal orientation.

LCD tv's aren't the best for low res games, look out for 21" Sony Vega CRTs. I have two of them and they are awesome and can be found for virtually nothing (when they appear) on ebay. Would love a 25" one - anything bigger would be way to massive to rotate.

Please get me that link! I have a 42" Plasma and I can't find a mount that supports tvs of that size.
