the football (soccer) thread

Post by jpj »

any other footie fans on the board?

missed the last two weekends of the premiership. really woulda liked to have seen man city's 6-0 over portsmouth :o

and i would *love it* if spurs and newcastle go down this season. do you know what spurs and cocktail sticks have in common?

although i am liking their newest chant:

Sol Campbell, wherever you may be
You're on the brink of lunacy
We don't give a fuck if you're hanging from a tree
You Judas cunt with HIV

although we don't have to use this thread for premiership talk. any general football chit-chat is cool :)

Much to the dislike of any true Geordie, looks like Newcastle will be getting relegated this year, unless the fat Cockney fuck Ashley packs his bags and gets the hell out of the Toon hotseat. The longer he takes to clear off, the more likely it is we'll be replacing Spurs at the bottom of the table.

And even then, it'd take a miracle to fix the problems on and off the pitch.

Also, too much money going around the Prem now. Top-flight football used to be better when most of the teams were even, and the best teams were the ones that found the stars for a ridiculously low price (think Cantona for 1mil).
That's primarily why more people watch Division One nowadays. :p

ah, i forgot you were a geordie

did you enjoy this thread?

and i dunno. while the money is crazy, and i wouldn't disagree with a cap on wages, i think people romanticise a bit too much. while the top four has largely stayed the same, if you pitched a 6th place side of today against a 6th place team of ten years ago, the difference in quality would be obvious.

i doubt ashley will find a buyer in the next couple of months. you know things are going bad when even terry venables wont take a job at your club...

i get the feeling you'll be watching a lot more of it in the future

Money is everything in football. Expect there to be a top-six or seven that is unbreachable now. All because people with ridiculous amounts of money are buying football clubs like they buy property and cars.

I'm not arsed about whether or not those Nigerian/South African people buy the club - the thing is, if they do, how soon, and will they be able to fix the rot within the club? I don't need to be a pessimist to see/think the worst is yet to happen.

I watch Div One regardless of what's going on with my team this season, and whether or not they'll end up one division lower come the end of it. I find Div One more interesting.

really?

while i do find it entertaining, the amount of goals that come as a result of absolutely piss poor defending is just something else. it seems like any donkey who's tall, and looks hard, can be a defender in that league.

what's your thoughts on joey barton, out of interest...?

That's part of the fun of it - no need to splash 30mil on some random player to get goals, just make sure your players can shoot on-target. The defending isn't too lax in Div One as you so described, but part of the appeal is that it's a lot more competitive, and teams are successful by virtue of teamwork, not how many superstars are in the first eleven *cough* Chelsea *cough*.

A man is sitting in a pub with his Jack Russell dog one Saturday afternoon. The football results are coming up on the television in the corner, "Liverpool 2, Tottenham Hotspur 1," reads the announcer in his normal, rather sedate, voice.

Suddenly the Jack Russell dog jumps up and shouts out, "Oh, fuck, not again."

The shocked landlord says, "That's amazing. Why did he say that when the result was announced that Tottenham lost?"

"Because he's a Spurs supporter," the dog's owner replies.

The landlord then asked what the dog says when Tottenham win a match, to which the man replied, "I don't know. I only bought him this season"

As long as no-one mentions Hull, North London is still red & white for me.

Just outta curiosity, who do you support Chris?
