I don´t care for that camera stuff and all that, but a slightly bigger screen and downloadable content + SD slot sounds good. I´m a bit disappointed that it doesn´t have a different design, though, but I probably will end up buying it anyway, Nintendo handheld fanboy that I am
Hopefully they will work on the d-pad quality, but somehow I have the feeling that this isn´t very high on their priority list.
-bigger screens which will lead to blurry, badly zoomed games, and perhaps new games being incompatible with the older models. (or perhaps all the games will maintain the same resolution but will be upscaled)
-no fucking GBA slot
Great, it's awesome that Nintendo has a new "Micro" in its sleeves, but I'm fine with DS, thanks.
Seems the major reason for the update is to tap into the downloadable market which is raking in so much cash on the wii. Larger screens would be nice, but I really don't need to take pictures with my DS or listen to music on it.

Eugenics: you know it's right!
I'll admit I'm curious about the DLC, but I imagine the majority of it will just be GBA games. And while the SD card could be a great thing for homebrew users, it seems like a setback for creators since they'll have to get unsigned code running.
There's no way they've changed the resolution though. That'd require more powerful hardware, or alienating their blue ocean audience with "those annoying black bars".

It guess it just means "bigger screen in relation to the overall unit", so the pixels are bigger. And a bigger screen is always awesome.
Dropping the GBA port is lame, though, but in reality I bet most DS owners either don´t even have GBA games (keep the "new target audience" in mind) or already have a GBA, so I don´t mind that much, really. It´s the same with the Micro and the missing GB game support, so I´m not really surprised here. I´m also seconding the "download GBA games" suspicion, Nintendo really knows how to charge for the same games over and over and over again

They will probbley sell GBA games as downloads thats why they have dropped it.
We have 3 GBAs here so I never used my DS for playing GBA games. I like the idea because even though I found the DS Lite to be a little easier on my wrists during those marathon sessions, the darn thing still feels like a boulder after a few hours.
*edited* why the fuck do they always come out with the most fucking boring colors first?
boring sells. I wont get one until some good clours come out. I think i have my heart set on a Lime green one this christmas or maybe one of the bathing ape LTD editions if im feeling a bit flush

That is not true! For example, take how well the original fatboy pink DS sold. Granted it was released around Christmas with Nintendogs but still. And even the coral pink DS Lite sold very well for a time.
This aggravates me even more due to the fact my coral pink ds lite grew legs and ran so now I need a new one. I was going to just buy a new ds lite but if I am gonna do that I might as well get the next version for shits and giggles.
And I love how they say US release is sometime next year. Excuse me while I go bang my head against a wall

Ahh yes - if resolution stays the same, it's great to have bigger screens. However, from the photos it looks like dpad is like the Lite one, and for that reason I guess I I'll keep my fat around.

Do you mean this DSi is the "Micro" or they have something else planned that actually shrinks the footprint? Because I would like that...
Seems like a micro to me - flashier, and further removing compatibility. (In all honesty though the bigger screens and the SD slot are improvements so it's not a total ripoff like the micro).
Wouldn't call the Micro a rip-off. It was extremely cheap, and designed solely to be extremely small. Plus, the small pixels make the games look beautiful. I love my gold and red Famicom anniversary edition Micro to death. I never use my SP anymore.
Only people who already own DS Lites will buy these. The cameras are a neat idea but the whole thing seems to be more inclined for use in Japan only. The current DS games would have to be stretched (or letterboxed) on the DSi, and no GBA slot. I didn't mind that too much because I barely play anything GBA related apart from Rhythm Tengoku.
I don't like handheld gaming that much, but I guess I'll stick with the DS Lite. This manages to somehow be an upgrade yet also come off as really trivial and irrelevant at the same time. But looking at the pictures up close they look like it has a non-glossy finish to the outer casing.

Nintendogs was marketed at girls as well as boys the two DS colour options were just an extention of that. Silver for smelly boys and Pink for girls who want to be princesses when they grew up.
I got a pink DS becuase i wanted a Pug from the get go. That and I fancie myself as quie the princess i want a pony called butter cup now.

I adore handheld gaming. I just dont have room for a deicent size TV until I move out so i see no point in buying one for my room. sods law it will be time to move out when i get a scrawny tv.
Right now its nice to pick up and play a DS when i get a chance. I use public transport too so thats also a bonus to play DS on the way to clubs and such

Pink DS lite? or fat boy cus I am pretty sure best friends the first dog you get is a husky. At least thats what I got with mine.
And I am definitely not a princess type but the colors blue and black were so boring. I think nintendo should come out with a purple or like you said lime green DS. Im sick of their basic color schemes.
I much prefer handheld gaming to consoles. Its not so easy to lay back on the couch and play a game in my house whilst doing so with a handheld is bliss.

They didn't change the resolution. It's still 256x192.
If they didn't, then how are the screens "bigger" overall?
Bigger pixels.
Anyway, it is worth noting that it has the DS browser built-in. This means the system has more RAM which could benefit DSi-specific games that come out.

Yeah, I like the Micro a lot too, it came very late in the GBA lifetime and felt more like an addition than a replacement to the SP. While the other ones were "back-pack portable", the Micro was the only one I actually carried around in my jacket from time to time because it is just so light and tiny - and actually pretty comfortable to play given despite its tiny size. Not something for extended play (I once played Castlevania HoD on it for four hours, never again!) but it´s a very clever little toy

these are the colours avaliable to the UK right now. Turquoise and lime green are pretty different. My friend got a half black half red one from JP. I was looking at these though
saw a gundam one just now. thats pretty sleek. I want something a bit difrent if i do buy one. I say I will buy it but my sister wants to get me something at chrsitmas and its in her price range
