Shenmue II (DC & X-BoX)
Shenmue II (DC & X-BoX)

Last year I played a bit of Shenmue II on the X-BOX & what I would like to know is whether the X-Box version is vastly enhanced in the graphics department compared to the DC & if has any new features, characters or levels, making it more worthwile to get instead of the DC version?
I only have a DC console but I might get an X-Box cheap, so which version is worth getting?
Is Shenmue 1 also released for the X-Box?
The DC version any good?

Shenmue 1 wasn't released for the XBOX but Shenmue 2 includes a feature length dvd of the the story of shenmue 1.
There's very little difference in the graphics between the DC and XBOX versions. The XBOX has some extra lighting effects and the ability to take photos of anything in the game.
Also the XBOX version is in english, if you like that sort of thing and comes on one disk.

The English voice 'acting' sucks donkey balls. Surely it's got to be deliberately bad?
Shit, the Japanese voices might be shite for all I know, but not understanding the language makes it much more difficult to tell. Prefer the original voices and subtitles of the DC version myself. Xbox rev adds slightly higher rez, and a couple of wacky graphic filters that don't really compensate for the voices IMO. Both have nigh-on asrcade=perfect Out Run and Space Harrier though, so you can't really go wrong!

The prototype they had actually had levels from both games in it.ST Dragon wrote:Wasn't the original Shenmue supposed to be released for the Saturn?
I think it was also supposed to need a Video CD card to play properly...
Not sure though.
Any Links?
I don't have any links, but the full footage from Shenmue-Saturn is on the Xbox Disc.
Quite impressive for a Saturn game...but the move to DC was wise.
currently collecting a crapload of coasters, carts, controllers, and consoles

I loved Shenmue II. I have the PAL version, and with the right boot disc, it works flawlessly in VGA. I guess you could also d/l the game with a VGA patch.
Anyway, as much as I enjoyed the laughably ameteur phrases Ryo spouted in the first game ("Maybe I should get another?" "Hey... I know this.", etc.), the Japanese voices are definitely the way to go. When you finally meet her, Shenua's voice is very soothing.
Great game. I'd pick up that PAL version before they become hard to find, as they're quite desirable on the US import market. The Saturn Shenmue video is a laugh riot. Man, oh man, 32-bit 3D, especially on Saturn, is bloody fucking monkey shite. I'm so glad that era is over (aside from the new handhelds).
