Namco 50th Anniversary on it's way!...

Post by dave4shmups »

http://ps2.ign.com/objects/744/744429.html

Does this strike anyone else as...kinda stingy? Seriously couldn't Namco have included more then 14 games for their big 50th? :? Taito is giving us 30, and Capcom at least 20!

Oh well-I did read on another site that this collection will include 2 unlockable games-OH PLEEESE LET ONE OF THESE BE SOLVALOU!!! :D :D (ahem)

And there will be some '80s music in it; which is always a plus for me! I wish Activision had included "Jump" by Van Halen, and "I Ran" by Flock of Seagulls so I could play either one of those two songs while playing Pitfall!

I'm a bit dissappointed that all of the games in the GBA version of the collection have been ported to GBA except Bosconian and that Rally-X has been replaced by Bosconain. Hopefully, Rally-X will be unlockable. I might get the GBA collection anyway if the ports are better than the previous GBA Namco Museum and Pac-Man Collection, but there is no reason why the collection couldn't have at least a couple other games, or at least some games that weren't already ported to GBA.

Jump is a horrible song, and Namco is a horrible company. That's all I have to contribute.

There is so much they could of added. You would think they'd look at Capcom and Taito's offerings and figure out a good compilation from there. Namco however chooses to port the same old games with a few additions.

Just lazy...especially for a "50th Anniversary" collection.

Namco sucks at these collections. They've got a bunch of old games they keep repackaging, but they never do anything different. How about repackaging the Namco Museum series from the PSX, that at least seemed fairly comprehensive. Namco's just lazy, there's only so many times people can be expected to buy Pac-Man and Galaga.

That being said, I'll buy the collection if it includes tate. Especially if they also throw in the Arrangements. If not, I'll still with my Namco Museum for the GC, all it's missing is tate and non-crappy-tinny sound.

Everyone's getting releasing compilations these days. It's hard to believe that Namco thinks it can get away with this. I mean, the Capcom collection is pretty much a retread of the Capcom Generation series, with Final Fight and Bionic Commando thrown in for good measure. Hopefully the Taito collections sets a new standard, and we can stop dealing with this bullshit.

For Namco, this is pretty good. And yet it's also pitiful that they couldn't just bring over all the games from their PS1 Namco Museum as Capcom did...

EDIT: Beaten to the punch...

Umm, Namco has released hundreds upon hundreds of games. They've been around for a reeeeally long time.

As for this collection, I think it's crap. Yeah, there are some really good, really classic games on there, but there isn't single title that hasn't been shoved onto some Namco anthology collection before. No way in hell am I buying this one.

"Konami Arcade Classics" for PS1 is pretty good. It has Gyruss, but not Juno First.

That's what I wanted; more games from the PS1 Namco Arcade series so I don't have to pay an arm and a leg for vols. 2 and 4. :?

Still, as I said before, there are two unlockables. If one of them is something really extraordinary, like Solvalou, then I'll pick this one up.

I just hope the non-tate version of Dragon Spirit isn't like 4 inches wide-if it's as wide as, say, Raiden Project on the PS2, that would be fine for me.

There is also a very good compliation of Konami games for the GBA with Rush 'n Attack, Frogger, Time Pilot, Yie Air Kung Fu, Gyruss, and Scramble.

Namco fucking sucks. How the hell does anybody not own these games in some form on one of Namco's previous forty million compilations?

Where the hell is Splatterhouse? For crying out loud, they could have at least thrown in Ordyne and Legend of Valkyrie.

Namco's got a huge back catalog of games that are at least 10 years old that they could easily include on this disc.

I'd like to see a 50 game compilation (wouldn't that be something)...

Yes, have all the games that were previously in Namco museum titles, but what about some of the other games like Lucky & Wild, Thunder Ceptor, Marchen Maze, and Marvel Land?

Namco's got no excuse for stiffing us like this, and I for one am going to pass on it until we get something more fitting.
You're arguing for a universe with fewer waffles in it. I'm prepared to call that cowardice.

If only they included Marvel Land. There are other Namco games I would have liked, but Marvel Land alone would make me get this.

I agree, but I'm still very curious as to what the 2 unlockable games are. I'm gonna head off and see what, if anything I can find, on these games.

I think it'd be really cool if one of those games was Pac-Man 2, because Pac-Man 2 is a severely underenjoyed game given its originality and pedigree.

Namco is just repackaging a lot of the NM games. This is a joke of sorts. For a 50th Anniversary package, I'd make it a dual-disc set.

DISC 1: Namco Museum Encore Complete Edition- All games from NM Vols. 1-5 and Encore. Have the unlockables (e.g. Assault Plus) already made available.

DISC 2: Namco Museum 2005- New additions to the NM series. Lucky & Wild (GunCon 2 and Steering wheel support), Phelios, Dragon Saber, Nebulasray, Burning Force, Mirai Ninja, Finest Hour, Rolling Thunder 2, Splatterhouse (would probably push it into an M rating though), Jr. Pac-Man, Metal Hawk (with Ace Combat stick support), and some others.

Pac-Man 2? Maybe on a separate console games collection. One thing in the game I had some fun with is pissing Pac-Man off by repeatedly hitting him with the slingshot. The first few times you hit him, he gives you this "Knock the hell off" look. Keep it up and he'll lose his temper, swearing at you in Pac-Landish.
Kinect? KIN NOT.

By Pac Man 2, do you guys mean Super Pac Man?

At any rate, I can't find SQUAT on what the unlockables are...which leads me to believe that, HOPEFULLY, they will both be really good surprises-though the way this collection is set up, I'm not going to hold my breath!

Personally, I am REALLY hoping for Solvalou-they should've put that in the main list of games on this compilation to begin with-come on Namco, you put out a friggin' PS1 disc with FOUR versions of Xevious! (Do these guys all have long term memory loss problems or something?!) But Solvalou was the one game in the Xevious series we still haven't gotten! If it's included, I'll buy the collection mostly for it!

Oh well, my favorite Namco Museums will probably always be the ones that appeared on the PS1-especially 2, 4, and 5.

No, Pac-Man 2 is a game for SNES and Genesis where you use a slingshot to try to get Pac-Man going in the right direction. From what I played, it's a very original and fun game. It was released in Japan as "Hello, Pac-Man". One cool thing about the game is that it has older Pac-Man games within the game, though the Pac-Man and Ms. Pac-Man are remakes of the NES versions rather than arcade ports and the Genesis Hello Pac-Man has a Ms. Pac-Man clone named Pac-Man Jr. instead of the original Ms. Pac-Man.
