The Irem collection (not a new release..just a thread title)

Post by maxlords »

Sorry to get anyone's hopes up...just wanted to talk about some Irem goodness. I've been casually snagging Irem PCBs here and there for a while and I've ended up with some goodies:

R-Type
R-Type Leo
Gunforce
Dragon Breed

The only one so far that cost me more than $50 was R-Type Leo, so I figure I've been doing pretty good :)

The interesting thing I've noticed is that all the Irem stuff I seem to be getting have very similar (in fact virtually identical) PCBs. It's like Irem put out all their good stuff on one PCB format. It's almost spooky. I know that X-Multiply and probably Gunforce 2 also share this PCB. Since virtually everything that comes out from Irem is good...my question is a simple one.

What should I get to complete the collection? What other Irem PCBs are "must-haves"? I've already got X-Multiply in my list, along with Image Fight (which I've not even SEEN for sale). Are there other serious must-haves for the 'Irem collection'?

Oh...and a side note...was Image Fight 2 ever released in PCB format ANYWHERE?

EDIT: Just picked up X-Multiply too. It seems to be a bitch to find so I didn't mind paying a fair bit for it....

The must have Irem PCB list -
R-Type
R-Type II
R-Type Leo
X-Multiply
Cosmic Cop
Fire Barrel
In The Hunt
Dragon Breed
Ninja Spirit
Mr. Heli
Image Fight

Of course, that's just an opinion.

DUDE!

Just because there's no arcade version, that's no reason to turn to drugs. THROW AWAY THAT COCAINE!

But it makes me feel like I'm on top of the world!

Plus....it fine tunes my senses to play the PC Engine version of Image Fight 2: Operation Deep Striker :) That's one hard-ass game!

X Multiply is awesome. Nice job snagging one.

I'd recommend...
Gallop (AKA Cosmic Cop)
R-Type II
In the Hunt
Mr. Heli (though I like the PCE version's easier difficulty)
and if you want to go waaaay back, Moon Patrol

I never liked Image Fight, personally, but YMMV.

Metal Storm!

(and no, I don't give a crap if it's not a precious collectible PCB, but an humble NES cart)

Wow...it's gonna take me some time to scrounge some of these up :D Awesome titles though...totally worth it.

The only reason I didn't add Moon Patrol to the list is that it's not JAMMA. I use to own a dedicated cab though and it IS pretty cool and hard as hell.

I really like Hammerin' Harry. Not a shooter, I know, but damn cool game.

Legend of Hero Tomma (Tommy)?

Also, Air Duel, I likes it.

And motherfucking GeoStorm (Gunforce 2).

Actually, of the games in this thread, I personally would only get

Ninja Spirit
In The Hunt (but PSX release seems pretty close if not arcade perfect with some difficulty settings tweaks maybe)
Dragon Breed
Image Fight
maybe R-Type 2
maaaaaaybe Gunforce 2, I dunno, it's just sort of odd to me, lots of brilliance but feels oddly truncated and also tough to control

If they were to make such a collection, I'd be very happy with...

R-Type
R-Type II
R-Type Leo
In The Hunt
X-Multiply
Image Fight
Gunforce
Gunforce II
Dragon Breed
Moon Patrol
Air Duel
Air Assault

Everything after that would be gravy.

Vaguely related, and I didn't think it warranted a whole new thread.

Sony is to reveal a new Irem game at TGS.

Maybe it's our compilation? Of course it won't be - but a new R-Type would be nice as long as it isn't final. Maybe they just talking about R-Type Dimensions or whatever it's called.
