Have you ever done this during a mid-dream?
Have you ever woke up during the REM (rapid eye movement) phase of an very intense and vivid dream? Given that there are several stages of sleep, the REM portion (and dreaming portion occurs during this REM stage) occurs during the 3rd and fourth stages of such deep sleeping.
I have done so on two occasions. The first time, I dreamt that I was walking in this lush forest with such tall trees and beautiful green grass on the ground. Upon suddenly opening my eyes, this forest slowly dissappeared into the darkness of the room I was sleeping in.
The second time around, I dreamt that I was inside this room slowly scanning it with various items strewn around, I suddenly opened my eyes and saw parts of the room beginning to slowly fade into my current bedroom. I was pleasantly suprised to find out that my subconsicous mind really does vividly portray such dreams that are no different than what one's eyes sees when fully wake.
It was interesting to suddenly wake up during this 2nd dream and to have it slowly fade away into the present reality (this subject matter really isn't portrayed very well in such Hollywood special EFX laden movies in terms of making an eye-catching transition from suddenly waking up from such a vivid dream to have it fade away into reality so subletly in 1st person view perspective -- it is handled from a 3rd-person perspective viewpoint in terms of visual aesthetics and storyboard planning such key film shots because it's easier to excute/film). Would make for such cool movie scene or a scene in a graphic novel medium. ^_~

I've gotten sleep paralysis from trying to induce lucid dreaming, I become aware of the fact I'm dreaming, then a couple seconds later I wake up and my body is paralyzed for 5 seconds, scary stuff.Ex-Cyber wrote:I wasn't conscious of having awakened from a dream, but I have had a couple cases of sleep paralysis, which AFAIK is caused by spontaneously waking directly from REM sleep.
Every once in awhile I have these weird dreams where I have conversations with people that I have never seen before much less met in real life. In the context of these dreams, these people are old friends or someone I've been married to for years.
Then when I wake up, I actually feel a little sad that these people never existed. They "lived" for only one night and that was it. It always weirds me out.

That actually sounds similar to DMT trip reports. The n00b wrote:Every once in awhile I have these weird dreams where I have conversations with people that I have never seen before much less met in real life. No... but very rarely, I'll get a lucid dream that I get to hang out in for a while. Sometimes I get too excited once I realize I'm in a lucid dream, and will pop out of it (either from sheer excitement or from trying something overly ambitious that destroys my brain's already shaky state). But occasionally, cool stuff can happen, like I will give myself super powers, etc.

I can't say anything like that has ever happened to me, but I do have a tendency toward occasional falce awakenings (getting interrupted while dreaming, then instantly going back to sleep and starting to dream that you're going through your morning routine until you suddenly "find" yourself back in bed about five minutes later.
Yeah, this happens quite often to me. It can be very frightening, and I've fainted from my heart beating so fast before now. This was during a dream about the ST3 mid boss in ESPGaluda. I was convinced that if I got hit by a bullet, I would die. I gripped my girlfriends hand and told her I was giving up, and there was a huge noise of rushing water in my ears as blue bullets spiralled around the bedroom and I waited for the inevitability of death. Needless to say, she hasn't let me play it since
In fact, most of these dreams that are terrifying enough to wake me during REM and cause paralysis/me jumping into the corner of the room are about lazers and pink bullets... I guess this is my brain trying to solve bullet patterns in my sleep. Perhaps I should try a different hobby...

yeah this happens to me a lot as i'm really really susceptible to sleep paralysis/lucid dreaming. nowadays i know what's happening so i can force myself out of sleep when i sense a paralysis coming on (usually a funny buzzing feeling in the right of my brain) but when i was a teenager and didn't even know what sleep paralysis/lucid dreaming was i found it teriifying. i definitely map out gameplaying in my sleep and often found myself dodging from side to side in my bed and waking up from it for a period last year..
one of the worst paralysis i had was when falling asleep watching videodrome once, needless to say it sucked. i also find i often get audio hallucinations during these as well. sometimes i hear running water in the room or in one bedroom i had i could hear someone whispering in my ear.

I googled DMT trip reports and it does sort of sound like it. Except most DMT trips seem to be extremely psychedelic, strange, and basically seem to be exactly what you expect when you play your brain like an accordion. I did find some weird video by a girl who took some DMT anally and tripped out.Acid King wrote:That actually sounds similar to DMT trip reports. The n00b wrote:Every once in awhile I have these weird dreams where I have conversations with people that I have never seen before much less met in real life.
