Hi bitKit, the shmupmeets that I host (in my home) are intended for forum members only. So you are definitely welcome to attend. But its not an open invitation for your friends to come and play games for free. So if anyone plans to bring non-forum members, please PM me first.

Regarding alcohol, IlMrm is right, I've pretty much kept it clean since I've had minors present. Otherwise I think Kiselgof described my dream bar-cade business (shmups+alcohol+strippers).

Droid, hope you can make it buddy!

Perfectly understandable about no booze around the kiddies. So you actually have a bunch of shmups at your house? I wasn't quite sure what goes down at these Bay Area Shmupmeet other than a bunch of like minded gaming nerds getting together! Well it should be fun and I look forward to meeting other forum members.

How many JAMMA cabs do you have Dave? any console TV setups? or console cab setups? I can bring some PCBs, but they are older ones.

Have about 6 jamma capable cabs, one horizontal ps2 cab, and a DC->Jamma setup if anyone wants to play Under Defeat or a one of the Milestone shmups (the only Naomi titles I don't have).

I do have a small tube TV that could be tated and played with any older console if someone wants to bring one, although most good console shmups I already have in PCB form.

What PCBs do you have?

Tiger Heli
Twin Cobra
Truxton I and II
Raiden II
Sengoku Blade
Raiden Fighters II

Horizontal PS2 cab? Hummm.. Gradius V anyone?

I really want to play some Truxton II co-op as well.

I just found out that I won't be available on November 8 and all days onward for a while. So I highly doubt I'll be able to attend this shmupmeet as it's currently scheduled. :/

I agree on the Truxton II if you can bring that! Not sure people will have time/interest to play the others with the PCBs I already have.

It will certainly be the last of the shmupmeets like I've hosted in the past (in my current place, with my current lineup of cabs). But thats not to say I won't host another sometime in the future. Just that I don't know where it would be, or with what cabinets since I'll most likely be selling stuff off to make room. Time to let some other folks host after this one.

Anyway, it would be a shame if Bernard couldn't make it.

Felix (and anyone else in SF or East Bay),
I would be able to take up to 3 people in my car to the meet. I live in Emeryville but we could meet up at a BART station or something.

Dave, what lineup do you have in mind this time? I am assuming:

Cab 1 - DOJ/Ketsui(like it's been for the past few meets)
Cab 2 - Futari 1.5
Cab 3 - Espgaluda 2
Cab 4 - Shiki 2(if Bernard is there)
Cab 5 - ???
Cab 6 - ???

Really hard to say what the lineup should be. The majority is only coming to play Cave stuff (especially SH3). Alec is going to bring Ibara BL, and if 8 1/2 comes down he might bring MMP! Of course Ketsui requires a dedicated cab so I usually combine with DOJ or Espgaluda. That leaves little room left for hidden gems. If Bernard really can't come, then the Naomi GD cab will play more SH3 titles. Doesn't look like I'll have any horizontal cabs this time around, unless someone really wants to play several of the following: RayCrisis, In The Hunt, Progear, Souki, Radiant Silvergun, Cotton 2/Boomerang, Night Raid, Blazing Star, Pulstar, 1945 Plus.

So here is what I'm thinking.

Cab1: Naomi GD or Cave SH3 (Pink Sweets or Mushi)
Cab2: Cave SH2 (Ketsui + DOJ or Ketsui + Espgaluda)
Cab3: Older Cave or Toaplan (on request)
Cab4: Raizing or Psikyo (on request)
Cab5: Cave SH3 (Ibara BL or Espgaluda2 or MMP)
Cab6: Cave SH3 (Futari)

Of course there will still be the horizontal PS2 cab - which usually doesn't get any play, and Planet Harriers - which I can only have on for short periods of time without blowing a fuse (with everything else on). I did want to hold some other type of competition after lunch, and had one fun hidden gem challenge in mind, if people can spare one of the machines above.

If I ever host another one after this, it would be a "I hate cave shmeet" where we play anything but cave.

Hi Dave,

Not entirely sure I can make it due to my work schedule, but can you pm me your address so I can mapquest it just in case? In addition to your great setup, I'd really like to check out your spyhunter, ya never know :)

If my wife lets me + work cooperates and I find the inner strength to do the socal -> nocal roundtrip, I'd be up for bringing MMP, futari black label plus whatever other cave shmups anyone would be interested in that I have.

Yup, I can and will bring that. Yeah, if 8 1/2 can bring the pork, I'd love to have a sample serving. Wasn't 8 1/2 a really awesome movie that I watched years and years ago???

I live in Pleasanton, and I plan to drive out there for this. If anyone else in the tri-valley wants to go and needs a ride, drop me a line, I'll most likely have a few extra seats.

Excited for this I am.

Thanks Alec, things are shaping up, and I'm pretty stoked for this meet as well!

Droid, you got PM. Hope you can make it, but perfectly understandable if you can't.

Today, I found out that I will be free for this shmupmeet after all. So, at the moment, I intend to go.

If anyone wants me to demonstrate something in Shikigami no Shiro II, let me know. I'm capable of clearing the game with any of the eight characters (but only for the types used by the Arcadia record holders) with a score of at least 46% of the Arcadia record for each character. So far, I'm thinking about accomplishing the following in this order:
  1. Fumiko 1, survival-focused ALL (for Dave's 1cc non-Kim request and IlMrm's 1cc some unpopular characters request)
  2. Chibi Fumiko 2, survival-focused ALL (IlMrm's 1cc some unpopular characters request)
  3. Roger 2, survival-focused ALL (IlMrm's 1cc some unpopular characters request)
  4. Hyuga 2, survival-focused ALL (IlMrm's 1cc some unpopular characters request)
  5. Sayo 1, survival-focused ALL (IlMrm's 1cc some unpopular characters request)
  6. Niigi 2, survival-focused ALL (IlMrm's 1cc some unpopular characters request)
(By a survival-focused ALL, I mean clearing the game without continuing and without any regard for scoring for the sake of a high score.)

IlMrm, let me know if you still want to see some score milking with Kim. Right now, I can milk the 1-2 boss, but I don't remember destroying the pink orbs at x8 consistently enough and I try to avoid having the time reach zero. And I don't milk the 2-2 boss at all. I highly doubt I'll be able to milk these two bosses successfully with a few hours of practice, which is all I have. I can show you some easier scoring techniques if you want, though.

Also, IlMrm, let me know if the character order is fine with you. I don't know what you'd like to see first, and I may have to bump some characters off the list to accommodate more requests.

Cool that you can make it. I just want to see some moves with any of the unpopular characters. I'll definitely shoot some videos of it and it'll be on Youtube for the whole world to see, the pressure!

Sure thing Albert, if you don't think they will get bored with shmups.

Bernard, yes I can queue up my DVD if you need to confirm anything.

Directions and stuff to be sent out today or tomorrow (sorry work has been pretty busy this week).

I am hella excited to come to the shmupmeet. Since I have only really gotten serious about shmups in the last year, this will be the first such event I have attended. Sad that it will be Dave's last, but hopefully the Bay Area community will continue on!

As I mentioned in my PM I have to be at work at Namco by 4PM because I work the night shift. :( I will only be able to stay till about 3 or 3:30.

Looking forward to meeting everyone.

I've finally returned to the bay area a couple of months ago, so I'd really like to attend this shmupmeet, since I'm able to. I'm probably no good unlike the rest of you guys, so I'll probably be sitting back most of the time.

Hey everyone, I hope you all enjoyed my Shikigami no Shiro II demonstrations. I realized that it's rare to see someone live clear a shmup without continuing (let alone eight times with eight different characters!), so I wanted to share my experience with Shiki II with you all.

And again, thanks, Dave, for hosting this shmupmeet. I hope you and your wife find a more spacious and comfortable place to live!

Hey all, great meet! I hope we can find some way to do it again. Anyway, here are some of the pics I took at the meet which were the least dark/blurry:

Thanks everyone for another successful shmupmeet! I've had a lot of fun hosting these over the last few years, and hope to host another sometime in the future after I sort out my moving situation. In the mean time, there are several people who are willing to carry on the tradition, and continue to make the bay area one of the most active locations for shmup'ers. I'm also looking forward to being just a participant, and doing more playing!

A few highlights from #10:

- Bernard, with his mind boggling 8 clears with 8 different characters on shiki II. He pretty much sat on this cab the entire day, only coming out for pizza, and then back to work! Amazing dedication!

- Change Air Blade showdown, where Battlesmurf walked away with the coveted candybar-tree trophy, only to have his ass handed back to him in a double KO by the TLB ("True Last Boss" a.k.a Bernard, last years winner).

- Spy Hunter sitdown cab getting non-stop play the entire day, mostly by KitKit who eventually beat the previous high score, but then Louisg knocking out a whopping 148K score, that nearly doubled the previous record my friend had on there for over a year.

Stay tuned for more pics (and maybe some videos) soon...
