Toonami You Dade

Post by JoshF »

No need for action block w/ chop socky chooks and skunk fu

Talk about your toonami memories/bury the fact that u thought dbz and sailor moon were cool at one time and rebel against dad here

I remember watching Toonami a lot during my middle school years. DBZ and Reboot were the big ones at the time I think. Nothing better to do after coming home from school than flintstone flop on a couch and watch DBZ. Though it's considered a joke nowadays (rightfurry so) I don't think there are many people my age who couldn't say their minds weren't blown by it when our whole concept of animation was formed by Disney and Nickelodeon.

I think I might have even caught something like Biohunter on the sci-fi channel one time. Remember my dad being as http://www.google.com/ define: BEGUILED by it as much as I was, because again it's something you weren't exposed to back then outside of california and hawaii maybe.

And Moltar was ten times better than helmet guy.

I used to get my Mum to record Cowboy Beebop for me when I was being swapped between parents, lolz child of divorce. I remember her texting me and saying 'zomg there is a man with tits on this you only got a glimpse but he had tits awesome'. Fun series, and the only animu I really got into (outside of films).

Before that, it was Dragonball Z hobviously. We all used to watch it 'ironically', even from such a tender age, but it was really good trashy fun.

Toonami died in the UK when CNX went off the air, I think the name still lived on for their after school/primetime slot but it was nothing more than a hollow shell. A hollow shell filled with Samurai Jack reruns and Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends instead of Escaflowne and Outlaw Star.

toonami is only Saturday in the states, the after school toons are no longer part of the block.

Toonami still shows mostly anime and stuff.

Cowboy bebop, was part of adult swim in the states rather than toonami. Adult swim seems to have jumped the shark anyway their programming has been bad for some time. ONly thing good is reruns of inuyasha and venture bros.

I used to love DBZ, watched it exclusively on Toonami for most of my childhood. Now of course I realize that it's roughly 20 minutes of yelling and seizure-inducing lights without any real substance or anything at all...but at the time I thought it was the coolest thing ever.

If it weren't for Toonami I don't think I'd even be into anime now, because that's what really introduced me as a kid. Then, of course, I moved over to Adult Swim to get the Bebop, Trigun, Outlaw Star. The good stuff.

I think I watched that show for a week before the mega man armor upgrades thing wore off.

Tim and Eric, Frisky, Darkplace, Squidbillies are good. Some of the new ATHF episodes are phoned in/too 12 ounce mousy (which was good in 12 ounce mouse) I hate to admit.

They've always had some duds in the lineup. Before Assy Mcgee and Fat Guy, there was Stroker & Hoop, Brak Show, Oblongs, MISSION HILL.

Hopefully this will cut down on the kiddies talking about nothing BUT anime. Dragon Ball Z was fun but the kiddies just take it too far. Hopefully this kills off the anime worship of every 14 year old on the internet. I like anime as much as the next guy but I'm a bit sick of seeing DBZ usernames and avatars plastered all over forums.

The final episode of Macross Frontier aired in Japan on September 25th, 2008. It won't be too long before such a complete boxed Region 2 DVD collection of it appears on Japanese retailer shelves. ^_~

Damn them Harmony Gold folks for not releasing any new Macross series properties (i.e. Macross Seven & Macross Zero anime series) for the USA anime market. I would patronize them if they did properly release Macross Frontier for the USA Region 1 DVD market. Of course, I already know that shit ain't gonna happen anytime soon. So the best solution would be to import it, right? ^_~

DBZ hasn't aired in forever, it (along with everything else) was replaced by Naruto, didn't you know that?

Of course, I already got my nostalgia out a week ago when it ended, so nothing much to say here. I did laugh when I saw what it did to 4chan, though.

I actually like Akira Toriyama as an artist, but the show was just way too ridiculously drawn out. I mean all I can remember is a panning shot showdown between Vegeta/Ginyu/Freeza,both characters panting for TWENTY SECONDS, cut to the guys on the sidelines twitching their eyebrows and saying something like "BE CARFUL", cut to Turtle guys house as they watch on a tv/magic ball, cut to goku running on a dragon/training in a spaceship, TSUDZUKU. I caught on/was worn out by the end of the Namek arc.
Anyway my embarassing Toonami memory is liking TENCHI MYUOouz
I'm sure this also lead to fond memories of discovering hentai on the internet, but you've already admitted enough.

On the last episode of Dragonball Z: HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Next time on Dragonball Z: HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Oh yeah I remember watching Tenchu Muyo/Universe too, I hated that shit, I didn't understand the concept of harem anime when I was 15 so the whole show and what not seemed really weird and dull to me.

Reboot was great. I love the Evil Dead episode with the Ash clone.

You listed all the crappiest shows as being "good" and all the best shows as "duds"?! (Assy and Fat Guy do suck but everything you listed after that is great)

I don't understand how anybody on earth can enjoy Tim and Eric. It's just the pinnacle of bad television.

I liked Reboot when the kid became Snake Plisssken but then they made the previous main character look like he had jaundice.

Tim & Eric is a ten minute blast of VIRTUAL INSANITY! You gotta know what a Tony Clifton is to undastand Tim & Eric. [/raphael fight scene]

2008?

When DBZ first aired on Toonami (98?) I watched it until they had no more translated episodes (30-40?). PIRATES OF DARK WATER + rediscovering Thundercats just before discovering ebay, spending too much on crusty old clunky tapes in betamax-sized boxes and other junk.

I saw Ninja Scroll (movie) a couple of years before we got CN, so the effect of too nami was less mind blowing. I liked Outlaw Star until Adult Swim started and I saw Cowboy Bebop :>

Takes a special type of person? You have to have a sense of humor that's in tune with the creators, I think.

I used to look back on some of the older adult swim shows really fondly until I actually watched them again through netflix. Home Movies hasn't aged a day.
I've only seen the first season of Tim & Eric Awesome Show, my friend tells me the newer stuff isn't as good though.
Season 2 is still my favorite, but every episode has a myriad of precious moments <3

All time favorite is still Tiny Hats (now open on sundays).

I've missed a lot of the new season. Word on the street is the next episode is devoted to Larry (you know what I'd do to something like that?)

Or was that last week?

Name names. I'd actually watch the leprechaun episode of ATHF before those episodes w/ Markula. Meatwad was so innocent back then.

Have you seen Lucy, Daughter of the Devil? The humor is similar to Home Movies (dialogued.)

pfft, I was watching Sailor Moon before Toonami even existed but enough about that

I never could stand DBZ, but for some reason I watched G Gundam.
...because it was the exact same shit with giant robots and a much lower animation budget? yeah I got no clue either

have to admit, that scene still cracks me (and my brother) up.

Wow, I remember when Toonami was hosted by Moltar and I was stoked to catch Ronin Warriors, Robotech, and Gundam Wing on it. Also, the Herculoids.
