This "make porn worksafe" by drawing over it is actually a meme from Somethingawful.com, at least that´s were I first saw it, so it´s not like Diesel came up with that. But it´s still funny to see it in movie form :)

It's still pretty common on 4chan too.

Well, technically, it is. I'm sure your workmates will have a good laugh if they see the content on your screen, though.

This is fucking disgraceful. Just lifting a zomg counter cultural meme ad verbatim from the internets. Can no one think for themselves anymore?

I gather you haven't played Phoenix Wright, Contact, or Disgaea 2 which all have internet memes in them. It's nothing new to use these kinds of things elsewhere. In fact, there's a thread on SA right now about this; giving away free SA username changes/titles/avatars/premium if you participate. Instead of just ripping it off, they seem to be working together. Maybe the creator was a goon.

Also, 4chan's just moot's angry off-site for getting banned from SA. Nothing but forced memes and trolling are there. Something this ingenious couldn't possibly be spawned from such a place. But the rapidshares option they have is quite useful though..

Appropriating popular culture (A La Pheonix Wright) is completely different from just lifting an idea and presenting it as is. Frankly I don't care who was involved in the production of the advert, I'm simply lamenting the sheer laziness of it.

The Crusha ads are an exception as Joel Veitch actually made them rather than the ad agency copying his style.

He did some ads in the USA with spongmonkeys too, if I recall, they didn't go down too well.

Loaded magazine, which has been turd since about 1999, used to do exactly this in early issues in the mid nineties, and I'm sure it was done years before then too.

Still, some fairly funny stuff I hadn't seen before...

The USA's FCC would be in uproar over this material if it aired on primetime viewing in it's entirety. And some heads would roll as well. ^_~

Make's that infamous Superbowl halftime incident of Janet's boobs look tame in comparision (except that stint was broadcast live worldwide).

I wonder if this particular Diesel commercial will win a Clio for best thought of commercial in terms of originality? Stranger shit has happened before. ^_~
