Isn't he that guy who closes his eyes (because his audience is so ugly) and improvs some blues 101 riffs strung together?

What Jazz have you heard? Jazz is probably among one of the most inaccessible major genres and of course if you don't like any aspect of it (the instrumentation, general lack of vocals, rhythmic structure, etc.) then it probably isn't worth bothering.

Still, if one has the patience, there is big payoff. It is hard to imagine some sentence with Coltrane, Davis, Mingus and Monk in it, and then the word 'sucks' at the end. :?

Clearly he has Muzak in mind when he thinks of jazz. We're not going to make a difference, and it's nothing much to lose.

Much more than the vibraphone soloing he mentioned, I associate clean lead guitar tone with boring jazz. This leads us into rekindling jam band debate.

Neon's initial complaint might well be about improv in music generally-- in jazz, blues, rock... And there I'm largely in agreement because I prefer careful composition, every note in its place. Neon and I have talked about this before, and I think our tastes are the same in this respect. But I also agree with Rob that jazz has its moments. Even jams can be ok, but probably more when performed live. There really is something to the cliche that the Greatful Dead were only good live.

as a half-arsed trolling thread, i give this 6/10

you have to be high to listen to jazz, maybe this is where you're going wrong?

ok, back to the topic

Jazz is pretty damn rad. Fact still remains if you don't like Miles Davis, you really fucking suck.

Eric Clapton had his moments. Many of those moments suck mind you, but a number of them certainly do not. I still love the Desralie Gears album a fair bit. Anyone who says he sucks though, I certainly will not contest.

I really still don't understand what kinda music jam bands play. I like bands that jam, but from my understanding, jam bands is something different. I've heard from many sources they generally suck, and I would take your word for it, but judging from your two first statement (which I have a better understanding of) you have some pretty shitty taste. I'll figure out what this shit is, but I'm in no particular rush.
