PCB owners Whoo hooo! I have a question

Post by neorichieb1971 »

Its occurred to me that in the event of an untimely death nobody would know what to do with my "quite" valuable PCB collection. Unlike a PS2 or XB360 you can't just take them down to the used trading store or list them on ebay unless you know what your talking about.

So in not so many words, would it be a good idea to nominate a fellow shmupper on here to be responsible enough to pay my family a fair price for said PCB's. 10% under market value seems fair.

Or list your hardware in a shmups database and if your absent from the forums for like 6 months or more, someone calls the telephone number you nominate.

Or someone could come up with an idea. 2 or 3 of us could just swap numbers or something.

Don't worry i'm not dying or anything, its just a thought. I have a feeling my stuff would be thrown out in the trash and its actually worth quite a bit.

It would be best to get insurance on your valuable PCBs (in case of fire at your residence, theft, lost in moving to another flat/place, etc.) and like sven said, let your immediate family members know of your expensive PCB collection. For it to all be thrown away would break a fellow arcade PCB hobbyist's heart. ^_~

To the casual person who knows absolutely nothing about such arcade PCBs, to throw away such valuable Cave PCB kits and whatnot...that is has got to be the stupidest thing to do. In California, it is illegal to throw away such "E-Waste" (electronic waste such as TV monitors, PC monitors, old radios, virtually any household item that contains electronics, etc.) nowdays in the landfills. It would be better for one who's clueless about such arcade PCBs to recycle them at the nearest E-Waste collection site.

Seriously though, my family wouldn't know how to test them, or if the buyer claimed they blew up they would have to refund the money. There is so much room for abuse here.

I'd have to firstly label every PCB, describe how they work.. and in 3 years time my Galaga 88 might be worth 88 grand or 88p, who knows?

I will write a will leaving them to you Sven, you can tell my family how much your willing to give back to them

I've thought about this, too. It's a thought that keeps coming up when I think about how much stuff I have amassed. It's an awful burden to leave behind. Shit loads of games, consoles, two cabs. It would be an all days work just to bin them, much less try to sell them on.

I'm pretty sure my stuff would be given away. Which would be great -- if it would go to the right person (and not some lowlife scum out to make a buck).

I have a friend (some one i know in the real world) who knows a little about my collection. In the event of my death he would come in do some research and sell on my family's behalf. Thats what I would suggest to you.

I don't think anybody would buy my entire collection for 10% under market value weather I was living or dead.

If I were to die before my time, I expect my family to throw this garbage out. I would do the same for them.

I also think its insane to have fire insurance on video games, regardless of the price. If my arcade bursts into flames, I'm moving on, maybe playing a little mame here and there.

In the case of my death, I have instructed my wife to give away 1 PCB a month, for the next 5 or so years, as part of a regular STGT monthly tournament, to ensure the community bitches and hates every last shooter, no mater how good.

Just let them ebay it, just a few pcb's at a time and contact some of your friends here or in real life for a little guidance.
