Screen alignment on arcade shmup pcbs

Post by jakeyboy »

Being new to this forum.. firstly hello to everyone.

I own a neogeo MVS cab and have found myself drifting from arcade fighters and getting more and more into the schmups.
The first thing i have noticed is the number of arcade pcbs which are aligned vertically and not having a cab with an easily rotatable monitor i feel rather excluded from some of these top shmups. I dont have the bottle to get in the back and rotate the monitor by hand!!

Does anyone know of any pcbs which might have dipswitch setting for rotating the image 90degrees or am i talking about a function that doesnt exist?

:?

it pretty much doesn't exist.

You would have to get another vertical monitor cab, or one with an easy rotate mechanism like the taito egret 2.

oh, and hello! welcome :)

that was a speedy reply!
Thanks for the info and the greeting.

I cant see the missus being ok with Another machine in the flat! :)

Inlight of that what arcade stores can people recomend for shipping to the UK? I have been looking at both coinopexpress and neoamusement and they seem quite good but does anyone else have any better ?

Quite often people do cab orders and import a whole container of them over. You're definitely looking for an egret 2 if you want a single machine that you can rotate the monitor in easily.

Sign up over at www.arcadeotaku.com , quite often a machine will turn up in the sales section, and theres a lot of friendly people there who will help you with your cab selection, or current cab problems etc.

Where are you in the UK? I am into MVS a fair bit too, love the neogeo but I hear you man, I'm sorta burning out on fighters too.

cheers.

Doh just noticed you are in kent sorry - did you ever go into that arcade heaven shop when it was open up there? When I was visiting friends I popped into that shop and was amazed.

I wasnt after another cab.. my missus would go balistic!! :P
I was looking for competetively priced game sellers.
Arcade heaven? dont remember that one- theres Raven Games in Beckenham which i know of but the stuff is over priced.
For now it looks like my best bet for cheap games is to scourer ebay everyday.

Ebay is actually the best way, you might also want to look at www.jammaplus.co.uk - they have a trade section which is full of arcade boards of all types.

A little off topic, but if you wanted to take the plunge, you could build a mame cab. I've messed with vert or hori monitors in mame cabs and then rotating images. It never looks proper with a rotated image in the center of the monitor, but it works. Plus, if you've only got one cab...

I have a mame cab with a huge vga monitor, and horizontal games fit right up the middle of it in proper rez.
