I didn't have access to the 2 Ray Force roms, in MAME, until I downloaded the Gunlock rom, maybe that'll work for you.

no error! its just not on the available list.....
I'd say that's an error.

Try getting Gunlock, that's the parent romset. Some roms of the parent romset are required by all of its clones (in this case, Rayforce is the clone), which is why it's called the parent romset in the first place.

Once you do get it (and put it in the roms folder), Gunlock and Rayforce should come up as Available. (Just don't blend the Gunlock and Rayforce romsets together, mame hates that)

edit: Further research indicates Mame DOESN'T hate that, it works fine bundled and reduces clutter!

Yeah, it seems to be fine.

I tried this on wolfmame+ 106 but the error box still makes it hard to see your ship. I'll have to get an older version of mame if Strikers is picked.

Just in case you didn't see it to get whatever version if the game is picked.

The votes are tallied up in the first post.

Rayforce received 23 votes, Strikers 1999 received 19 votes, and Thunder Dragon 2 received 14 votes.

So which version of Rayforce do we use, 2.3A or 2.3J? Is there even a difference?

It doesn't matter, gunlock/rayforce/rayforcj is fine.

LOL we actually did a team vote this week and whichever game we picked would have been the winner.

We didn't even consider TD2 because we thought it had no chance of winning, which sucks in retrospect because I would have voted for it.

<mikwuyma> why didn't we vote for td2 noooooooooooo

I voted for TD2!

I guess I won't mind playing RayFarce again, the OCD element never really bothered me even though many people hates it, they hates it terribly. I probably will score somewhat higher than I did in the last round as a result of having practiced it a wee bit due to TOM-STGT Week 2 (thanks Macaw!)

Rayforce is nowhere near as OCD-ish as Feveron is.

One would think TD2's regularly spoken "YEE HER!" would get tiresome after a while.

One also wonders how one should "take a left turn" when one is in the middle of outer space.

Ed: I actually prefered TD2 just because we already played Rayforce for Macaw STGT.

This is probably going to be my favorite week of the tourney, although TD2 would have been good too, and I'd take any of these games over last week. :?

I don't see how someone could hate the scoring system btw, it's magnitudes less anal than 19xx or Dangun Feveron. It's actually pretty nice, so the main complaint I would imagine is being sedate instead of OCD. If you mess up a formation, it only costs you on that formation, unlike DF resetfest. The scoring scales very evenly, and there are no bombs, so you don't bombspam or feel like killing yourself when you die with bombs like in other games. And yeah there's memorization like all stage-based games, but it doesn't feel as forced as stupid bees or poles.

The way the scoring system plays out is actually similar to Blue's Journey (not a shmup) if you take out the 10k items, although anyone who knows what I'm talking about has probably already heard me say that. Honestly I love this scoring system for a weekly competition. It's tough to figure out many of the formations, it's tough to execute perfectly, it's very non-anal, and it's tough to 1cc so you could always score more just by longer survival.

I also wonder why the control tower talks to himself.

He's probably thinking "pls say something hawt pilat lady!" but all he gets is a vacuum-cold silence, so he says ROGER! to himself. Or, of course, it could be a mixup between the sound and art teams...

Team suicide for Team Royale then? I thought I was going to get to play a game I actually own on PCB, but 1999 got beaten to it, maybe because of the amount of people who own Rayforce on Saturn I guess. Oh well - there goes any real chance of me doing well this week!
