I think that the first boss has only one airscrew because of the limited hardware power of the DS. So you can use the resources for more bullets and a smoother framerate
Argh, you were faster than my editing  I thought so too, until I realized that the one in the video is actually the midboss from the original and that the stage 1 boss initially has four airscrews but has one center one too in the second form.
There are 3 difficulty levels in the game. Easy, in which you fight 5 mid-bosses, Normal, where you fight five end-bosses, and hard, where you fight five end-bosses with more bullets, and then DOOM at the end.

Or so it said on the official website a while back. Things might have changed now.

Ah, great, that means all bosses are in there. I was a bit concerned about that for no particular reason; maybe because I haven´t seen them all in the trailers yet.

I also wonder what music will be in there. I don´t want to hear the boss theme ALL the time. Maybe each mode has one of the level soundtracks until you reach the last boss of that mode where it switches to the boss tune or something...

Looks like it is a boss-rush only, but it looks like a good boss rush.

I'm not disagreeing with you, but what is that part in that youtube trailer you just linked to at 2:00-2:09 supposed to be? Looks rather stagelike to me.

Then again, I don't know what I'm talking about, I've yet to play Ketsui.

That´s the multiplayer stage. Whether it´s accessible via single player is anyones guess (would be great, though), but the "main mode" of Ketsui Death Label is the boss rush. That stage is based on level 5 of the original game.

So I guess this is the closest I'll ever get to playing Ketsui :P

Yeah, me too.

You know, many people were downright offended when the PS2 port got canned and Arika used the license to bring this game to the DS, but I´m really glad to see how well this is turning out and I´m seeing things more from the "best portable shooter ever" perspective rather than "shoehorned arcade conversion" side anyways

...and probably region coded (=useless unless you're willing to buy a jp system just for that).

I'm seriously looking forward to this. Bangai O spirits proved that compressing an arcade style shooting game into a more bite-sized portable form does work.
If they really region code the sucker on the 360 I'll stick to the DS version unless its bigger brother gets emulated.

So you are implying that people can´t possibly looking forward to this too?

I completely agree. I was disappointed at first that this was "only" going to be a boss rush, but it´s actually a very sensible decision that fits the format much better. And this IS an Arika product after all, Mihara makes the most polished ports and games avaiable. Again, people need to stop seeing this as a heavily downgraded port - this is now a whole new game in itself. Of course, some people are strictly against handhelds (think of the whining when Bangai-O came to the DS and not a "real console") but now that Ketsui also gets a full port they have no grounds to complain about Death Label anymore.

I mean, sure, converting such a game to a handheld system as relatively weak as the DS could have gone horribly wrong, but look at how nice it all looks now. And I for one am happy to finally have some danmaku to play on my couch or on the balcony or on the train, so I don´t care about not being able to use my precious Seimitsu stick and my Egret II cab (which I don´t have and can´t afford) for this game. This is a shmup, and it´s on DS. That´s all.

No no I'm looking forward to this too, I'm buying it

I guess its just that I'm having a hard time seeing how the real ketsui, deathsmiles, raiden 4 and so on still isnt motivation enough for people to get a jp 360. I mean this is the shmups board right? For me its a no-brainer, its worth it for Ketsui alone, I've wanted that game for years. And I'm not super rich or anything, I'm not into pcb's etc. But I can see myself having to replace my 360 and still think its worth it :)

The ports and the 360 price drop is indeed great news, it´s just that I also would need a new TV to go with the console :? I´ve heard to can also hook up a 360 to a monitor via VGA, but then again I doubt that the ports have a proper tate mode. (Aside from Death Smiles, obv)

Shiki III, RFA, Ikaruga, Raiden IV and THE all have proper tate modes. I see no reason why Ketsui and DOJ BL wouldn't include them.

its not like we dont wanna get one of those, is just that (in my case) it'd be pretty darn expensive!!... say, an arcade XBox360 JP edition is at 200 bux... if i happen to import one to my country, it wouldnt come in less than 400 bux... and the problem is, that im not into Arcade XBox360 but onto Elite models... so that adds up quite a lot. thats why i bought the elite model a few months back (and i had to count pennies to get it done, cuz i was short on money then), and hoped for them not to region lock... but since chances are that they're gonna doit anyway, i'll have to wait a few years b4 i get to play'em ... too bad for me, but thats just the way things are for me right now.

Anyone thinking of getting a 360 for these new shmup releases would be wise to get one with a large HDD. The Winter dashboard update allows you to install all DVD games onto the HDD and run them from there. This will vastly reduce, if not almost completely eliminate any loading times between stages.

Now I´m certainly no saint either but let´s hope that people will realize that in this particular case we really should vote with our money  I mean, if this sells well, maybe we´ll get more portable versions of Cave games (or other shooters in general, of course). I mean, they already have cel phone ports of most of their games, including Death Smiles and Mushi Futari, which seems to indicate that this seems to make money, regardless of their probably pretty debatable quality. And considering that everybody and their mom has a DS in Japan, I can easily see this sell a lot. I know that the DS isn´t exactly the most arcade-perfect platform (hooray euphemism!), but the japanese seem to love gaming on the go (with all the train commuting and such) and I would guess this includes STG fans.

Besides, wouldn´t it be sweet to see japanese shmup players battle each other in Ketsui Versus mode while waiting in line at the next Cave location test? I mean, I certainy won´t be able to use that mode a lot, but it could turn out to be a major feature for many people with enough other players in their region.

Don't worry, it will sell to the fans. Considering the rest: I'm realistic on this and don't expect the curious western gamer to fork out 50 bucks for a jp-only danmaku shooter published in low quantities.
However, it should spread the word a little bit...just like Emulation did some while ago

i think some people are forgetting that this $50 game also comes with a superplay dvd for full version ketsui. under normal circumstances, cave would sell that for $50 all by itself. or add an artbook and charge $80. think of this package as an appetizer for ketsui 360 and it looks a lot nicer.

You're absolutely right and that's why I wrote that it WILL sell to the fans (= people who care about the dvd). I still don't think that the quantity is going to be high though so selling them off shouldn't be much of a problem.

Makes me really excited for that "Ask IKD" part of the game. I mean, I won´t be able to understand it, but at least I can look at funny pictures of this guy. Seems like a fun dude.

And for those who missed it, here we can see him again in the french shmup documentary (around the 4 min mark, there is also a direct download link in the description in Part 1)
