Does anyone here get the new Microsoft ads starring Jerry Seinfeld and Bill Gates?

I sure the hell don't.

I'm just posting that to show what a weird motherfucker he is... he even admits to doing LSD in the interview. It's one of the dumbest things you can reveal about yourself when you're as popular as Bill Gates. :?

Bill is richer than a motherfucker and pretty much retired. He can say whatever he wants and no one will care.

This interview was done before Windows 95 came out even... and most normal adults really look down on drug use, especially since he's so involved with children's charities. It doesn't matter who you are, admitting to taking hallucinogens is terrible PR.

Or he could've replaced LSD with the legal hallucinogens we give children and won the hearts of autism advocates.

They're nothing difficult to understand. Microsoft's latest operating system is a pathetic failure, and Gates has employed the help of popular comedian Jerry Sienfeld to pimp it out. I, for one, am disappointed in Jerry. But I suppose a comedian's gotta do what a comedian's gotta do.
Of course, that's just an opinion.

One of the worst advertisements I've ever seen. These commercials have no relation at all to the product or company. It's just stupid. They're not funny either. I get that they want to associate their company with the nostalgia of their old 90s image of the cool guys, but it's just way too late for that. Everyone already hates microsoft. 30 seconds of Jerri Seinfeld and Bill Gates interacting isn't going to change that.

You guys really don't think that the American public looks down on illegal drug use?

The LSD thing wasn't even the main point of me putting that up here anyway, just the fact that his style of humor has him going off on weird tangents and acting the same way he does in those series of commercials.

Take it easy Ozy. The guy is the (second) richest man in the world. As long as he doesn't promote sex with children, he can pretty much say whatever he wants. Besides, this interview is from 14 years ago. Did it have any negative consequences for Gates? No, he only became even richer since.

I thought it was pretty funny.
What was ever to get with seinfeld?
And I think it is just because fans and probably themselves thought they should counter apple.
But m$ doing marketing is not a good idea. Their products are pure shit. We somehow learned to live with them, but we don't want to be reminded of who makes our lives stressful.
I hope Apple will react and the m$ will have to look for another idea.
Heck, they should get George next time. George behind a computer having a problem saying: "what's this" (all annoyed) and then Bill comes in and says: "it's our new way of ...." And then later or perhaps another commercial, George will run after Bill asking: "and this eh.....what is that all about?"

I guess, but I don't think anyone's going to be shocked by him having taken a drug in its heyday that at least 20 million people in the US have also taken. He's almost hilariously successful anyway, and as Seph said, as long as he isn't a child raper basically he can do/say whatever he wants to.

edit: but yeah I see your point I guess

Microsoft already pulled the plug on the Bill & Jerry ads and is now running an ad with their own "I'm a PC" guy. It's funny, because it seems that Microsoft doesn't understand that the people in Apple's ads were supposed to be personifications of computers, not users.

I'm disappointed, because I wanted to see what the Bill & Jerry ads were building up to.

I suspect Apple will not respond directly to Microsoft's ads. They'll just ignore them and move on.

Regarding Bill G doing LSD, I don't think anybody cares. Even people who do care aren't going to stop using Windows because of it.

I didn't say people were going to boycott Microsoft over it, just that it was a stupid thing for him to say. God damn :?

Was the one where they were staying in that girls room and stole the family giraffe plushie thing (or whatever the fuck it was, I don't really remember) the last one they aired? I never liked the commercials, but I did want to see what the hell it was all leading up to...

You can watch the long version on youtube. It's just "Bill" and "Jerry" meeting and then staying with a regular family in order to get back in touch with ordinary people. Eventually they leave the first family to go to another one.

The first clip is about them meeting in a shoe store:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fSQMg3gc1r4

The second is about them staying with the family:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gBWPf1BWtkw

And that's it.
And no, this certainly didn't make me like Microsoft or go and purchase their latest load of Hasta La Vista.

Supposedly, a third Bill and Jerry commercial was filmed, but will not be aired due to poor public response to the first two.

I think it's interesting that Seinfeld was even chosen by Microsoft. I always figured he was a Mac user.

I'm not trying to agitate you, but, if there is no negative impact, what makes it stupid? Honestly, Bill Gates can say whatever he wants, none of it matters. I think that bothers him. Hence, the new ad campaign.

Indeed he is. People are willing to endorse all sorts of crap for $10 Million.
