I see that the Taito Type X system is fundamentally PC based and runs on embedded Windows...
...Does this mean that I could use a normal P4 PC to emulate the TYpe X system? And if so how?
Ha ha-bear with me cos I'm new to this
no you couldn't , the hard disks are heavily encrypted.
maybe in five years time you could build a similar specification machine and simulate the hardware if the images ever get decrypted, but thats naughty yo.
I've not done any homework on this (could be a simple google search), but I believe the encryption is decoded by the USB key, which unless the system has some sort of special BIOS, I would think that you could copy the hard drive and the USB key and rock and roll on another machine... just a guess.

Yes indeed-respect to Plymouth
So are we saying that this could easily be done if:
a) the game images were reverse engineered to boot from a normal PC BIOS or
b) we had a mobo running the Type X BIOS?
People have reportedly cracked some of the PC-based Bemani games, but I have no idea what kind of protection that involved or didn't involve. Has anyone even dumped Type-X hard drives in the first place? I think they're still on Guru's "wanted" list...
