Nah, i have a bootlegged PS2 Controller. And it sucks!
The controls are not responsive and buttons work only if you press them really hard.
But i am optimistic with this Sega-pad.

you don't need one, I play PS2 games on my PS3 with my arcade stick via a USB adapter all the time with no PS button.
How does this work? caus with a normal sixaxis you have to press the ps button. Is there a technique to get usb devices wthout a ps button to play ps2 games on ps3?
how?

How many colors of the original were even ever made?
I never was able to find any info on these pads. Is there an information source somewhere

Received them a few minutes ago... they are pretty good.
D-Pad is quick and responsive. The sound of the buttons is a little clicky, but that might go away.
Shoryuken-approved ;)
gonna put pics up tonight or tomorrow, since i've got to get to work soon.

On the USB side you had 8 colors. Get ready for some controller pr0n:

Plus 2 amazing metallic versions. If anyone has one of these I will give you $150 right now.

you only have to press that button b/c:

when the PS3 switches over over to it's PS2 mode it sort of resets, it drops it's wireless signal then reactivates it; so you have to press that PS button to reactivate the controller and have it sync up to the system again.

have you tried playing PS2 games with that saturn pad yet? have they not worked for you in PS2 mode?

I have not used those pads but I can promise you that I've navigated through the PS3 dashboard, played the battle fantasia demo, and played KOF 98 UM all with my stick connected directly with a PS2 to USB adapter that has no PS button. I was never prompted to press the PS button either.

Thanks for the explanation.
Not one ps2 game has worked for me, I tried all kinds of weird procedures and tests, but nothing. I do hope to find out a way to do it.
ps3 and ps1 games for fine and do not reset the connection. I've got a HK ps3 60GB and I tried with an original saturn usb pad.
Perhaps somebody knows what the deal is here?

EDIT: I wonder if any ps3 usb sticks work with ps2 games on the ps3, or are they all with ps buttons? probably. OK, so ps2-USB converters work.
Hmmm, well, it's a shock that the usb saturn pads even work with ps3 in the first place.

I'd guess that a Chinese company (maybe even the company that made these originally) has obtained a license from SEGA to produce these. They look too good to be fakes, and there are too many of them, and in too many colours, to be new old stock. Maybe?

Sega has not issued a press release stating they would start producing these again. I think that they are not fakes. I bet they are/were made in the same factory the originals were made. Or perhaps a new intern somehwere asked: "hey, what's in here?".
So many possibilities!

Hi ___, we received our order of the Sega Saturn pads today and we can confirm that they are authentic. We matched them to our original pads that we have been using for a few years now. The cardboard packaging, the controller cables, the circuit board, and the buttons are the same.

We sent a few emails to the seller inquiring about ordering larger quantities but unfortunately they haven't responded to our inquiries. Based on what our Hong Kong suppliers have told us, the supply that they had remaining was probably old stock from a few years ago which they started selling.

Regards,
NCS, Inc
I just saw that on SRK, it's an email reply from NCSX, sounds like they must be original old stock then. :D

The 3 colors on eBay right now were the most common/most produced variants back in 2004. This combined with the thread @ SRK and that NCS e-mail above pretty much confirms suspicions that these are in fact "New old stock."

Get 'em while you can!

I know, it's ridiculous isn't it? I really want a pair of grey controllers too, it looks like no one is really buying them due to the inflated prices, so I expect the prices to hopefully drop soon.

Actually, he is trying to sell a pair of grey ones for 89 USD now. This is the fault of all those Lordstars and NCSXs pestering the seller with questions, combined with buyers actually willing to pay those stupid prices.

Simple solution: Don't buy them. The seller wants to unload his stock- he'll be forced to lower his prices. As you can see, the first couple of BIN auctions have already ended without anyone buying. That's good.

They came out in 2004, not '94, and they cost about 30 USD a piece back then (2980 Yen).

Holy dickhornets. I knew something like this would end up happening.

I'll probably end up using mine though. The grey ones don't get dirty as much as the pink and white ones.

got my pair today:

- plug&play in xp

- original or not, they feel absolute great and i'm sure i'm gonna have alot of fun with them (hope they last...)

- for the old bin-price def. a steal - dunno if they're really "worth" the newer prices (considering the shitty alternatives when it comes to d-pads on other usb-controllers, they actually might...)

i'm happy with my purcase :) [throws away that *@%#! psx-controller and never uses it again]

Using a controller? This is pure madness.
I bought mine to scrub the toilet clean.
