What is your favorite shmup poster?
What is your favorite shmup poster and why?
I'd have to say that Funai USA's (circa 1983) Interstellar arcade-laserdisc promotional poster was cool for it's time. There was one hanging at my local arcade back in the mid to late 1980's. Makes me wonder how much it goes for these days assuming one in good to mint condition can be found from the "Golden Age of Arcades" era, of course. ^_~
With the official tagline saying: "3.....2.....1.....Blast Off to Interstellar adventure!" on the Interstellar promo poster back in the day.
And there is the third Interstellar arcade laserdisc promo poster of "Interstellar: Zangus" to check out as well. ^_~
What was interesting about the USA branch of Funai that it was based out of Las Vegas, Nevada (of all places to be located in the USA aside from it's Japanese parent company).
The USA subsidairy of Funai produced two different cabinets of Interstellar: the more common upright version and the more rarer deluxe sitdown version. I've tried out the rarer deluxe sitdown version at my local Chuckie E. Cheese's hangout back in 1983-1985. The more common upright cab version of Interstellar has been shown off at the yearly California Extreme show from time to time. Awesome arcade laserdisc-based shmup title for it's time. It has never gotten a proper home game console port and thus remains a true arcade-only experience not to be missed. ^_~

Years ago I had an official Gradius poster, but it was lost between the move from my apartment to here...oh man that was like back in the 90's. Right now I have a blow up of Last Hope...made from a sticker that came with the game from Play-Asia that my wife made @ the FedEx/Kinko's she worked at. Thats the only poster I have right now so I guess thats it.

That must've been worth something...aw shucks, sorry to hear that you lost it in moving. Was this the official arcade Gradius promo poster or was it some other Gradius poster?

I had an acquaintance years ago who owned a Neo-Geo back in early years of the console...we were gods because no one else had one so everyone wanted to come over our houses. Anyway he had access to promotion poster for Neo cabs...(you know the ones that had several games to use and had a slot for your memory card) he got me posters for Metal Slug, Last Resort, etc. He had several other posters at his crib, one of which was Gradius. I asked him for it, he said no. Some time later his parents kicked him out of the house...when that happened he sold everything he had. He offered me the poster for $10 I think.PC Engine Fan X! wrote:For Robotron,ROBOTRON wrote:Years ago I had an official Gradius poster, but it was lost between the move from my apartment to here...oh man that was like back in the 90's. Espgaluda II's full size poster is awesome just because of its size. Also because the quality of the art jumped significantly between galuda 1 and 2.
I can't find a picture on google but I'm pretty sure EOJ was selling one a while back.
Ibara Black Label is pretty sweet too.

I agree. The ESPGaluda II poster is wicked.I can't find a picture on google but I'm pretty sure EOJ was selling one a while back.
Probably as good of a thread as any to pimp off my poster scans.
