Rock Band 2 thread
yesss
Going to buy this today if I can (it's only 6am or I'd already be at the store.) I never really got into music games as hardcore as everyone else did, but I think what sold me on this one (besides that they ironed out a lot of the issues with the instruments) is the tracklist. I don't think I could have picked a more crowdpleasing tracklist here... this is one of the best I've ever seen. Probably the only people complaining are the kids who can't tolerate anything made before the turn of the decade. That or Tool fans, who are probably holding out for Guitar Hero World Tour (three songs but nothing from Aenima, wtf?) But yeah, stuff like the Replacements and Dinosaur Jr. really surprised me. Not to mention I can get song packs from the first game too, I'll be getting that Bowie pack...
I suppose people can praise/complain about instrument related stuff in this thread too. The only music game I have is Guitar Hero 2, I've never used Rock Band drums.

I had other complaints. Not too much stuff that feels rock on there for a game called Rock Band. Pop Band, better title.
If Rock Band stays the course of realizing it is the iTunes of interactive music and continues to accumulate all the music it has ever put out, this thing can stay interesting.
Probably won't buy it though. I'll have enough friends to run the tracks into the ground when I come over...unless they've been buyin' DLC constantly since last time i played...

Though the track list needs more metal, I have to say the expensive new drum set looks pretty great.

360 has a USB connector yeah? My DOA stick is plug and play so I would imagine this would be the same. Dont hold me to that though.iatneH wrote:If the drums are compatible (or can be easily hacked) to work with Drummania, looks like I will have to pick one up.

Wanted to pick it up, but they're all out everywhere. A clerk even told me they wouldn't recieve any more games until Oct 16.... but I'm sure that's BS.
I'm really, really pissed I can't buy a game when I want to (and it's out), especially one like this. Why don't they learn and stock up? They know it's going to sell... Also pissed x10 when I go to some game stores and they tell me the game is not out yet, when I saw someone walking around with it...
Very disappointed. I know I could buy it online somewhere, but I didn't want to play this in one week... I'd rather play it now, and I'm not the only one. Anyways...

/agrees with DJ. I didn't like the set list of Rock Band 1. I haven't really looked over RB2, though I'm going to get it just to play the drums. I wish they did alot of the downloadable content from RB1 as the original content instead.
But I am going to wait a week or so (if I can) to see the reports on the quality of the drums - drawbacks etc... If they suck, maybe just wait for an aftermarket set before buying any part of RB2.

Rock Band 2 is pretty great if only because you don't need anyone to play World Tour with. It seems to have a greater variety of music, but at the same time suffers from the same problem GH2 had - they used most of their A material up the first time around. Thank God for DLC and most of the RB1 songs being carried over.
I havn't tried the new drums out, but my RB1 drums work fine for the level I'm at. When I'm seriously trying to 100% stuff I'll worry about the mediocre red drum (which I'm learning to work with anyway).

I've already seen a youtube video of the new drum set failing miserably (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ct04iS-gzwA). I'm hoping his was just a one-time bad set. I'm gonna hold off for more reviews.

That sucks. I'm sure the majority of the kits work fine though. That's just something that goes along with electronics. GHWT has it's own drum kit, so I'm curious to see how that one turns out. Just from looking at it though, I'm not too big on the setup of that one with the elevated half symbols.landshark wrote:I've already seen a youtube video of the new drum set failing miserably (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ct04iS-gzwA). Hit drop-outs, one drum triggering the other drum.
I'm glad I waited.

The sad fact of the matter is that it's really hard to make a decent 100% perfectly working drum controller without driving the price well into the triple digits.
Konami knew this and just said "fuck it," and made a shitty cheap controller for Drummania and allowed players to buy a $1k Yamaha DTX kit if they really really care (or any other MIDI-out kit really, but they push DTX since IIRC their arcade cabinets are based on the DTX series). Harmonix kind of knows it too, thus the Ion controller (the quality of which I haven't really heard anything about yet).
