X360 arcade version and game patches

I'd like to buy a japanese X360 to play Raiden Fighters Aces, Otomedius, Radien IV etc.... My question is: Will the flash card inside be enough to hold game patches or do I need to buy the premium version that comes with an HD ?. I'm not going to buy games on XBOX live or play any games other than 2D shooters so I just don't want to spend more than necessary.

but there are 2d shooters on xbox live arcade! worst comes to worst, searching "xbox 360 20gb" got almost 700 auctions on ebay for between $30-50 on average, so you can just grab one cheap. that memory card may just last you, but i'd probably sell that and put it towards an hd just in case you do find some xbla games you like.
