Just get a new place with a bigger garage and you should be fine to continue hosting!

I'd suggest getting a house with a bit of land and building a dedicated 'outhouse' for the arcade, but then I remembered 'california' and 'house with land' means 'lol'

Hah! I won't hold my breath for that one, but you never know. Actually a few of the games may make there way into my new work location...that should thin the herd a bit if I end up with a small garage.

This last meet is going to be legendary.

And congrats Dave, I don't believe I had a chance to congratulate you yet. :D

Also this gives Bernard more time to practice Shiki 2. We're not leaving Dave's house until Bernard clears it with every character, both shikigami styles.

For Dave_K.

Will you still be in the San Jose area when you move?
I have always wanted to visit your home arcade (Planet Harriers!). My mothers side of family live in San Jose/Milpitas area and though it has been 9 years now  I may be out in that area sometime in the next year… My mother bugs me to go with her as she visits the area what seems annually.

Thanks IlMrm! I agree we should demand some first hand account of Bernard's Shiki skills.

Sven, cross shmpumeet tourney would be very cool if possible. I'm already thinking of some strange shmup olympics to end this last shmupmeet.

Sonic_R, there is a strong possibility I'll be moving to Fremont, which is even closer to Milpitas, so definitely let me know when you are out here visiting your relatives.

The 10th and final shmupmeet at Dave K.'s old house...what a way to end it with a "big bang". :D

So are prizes going to be given away this time around? Might as well make this shmupmeet to end all shmupmeets by giving away some nice choice shmup-related prizes or plain cold-hard cash can sweeten things up.

I'd still like to see such a Shmupalooza type of event at the 2009 California Extreme show. Get enough fellow shmuppers to lug some of their Japanese candy cabs and bring in some choice arcade shmup PCBs and make it a worthwhile event. The CAX staff thinks otherwise but I think it can be pulled off successfully and still have some news media coverage of it as well. ^_~

If I don't have work on whatever day is chosen for this meet, then I intend to go. I have no plans for November 1st or 2nd yet.

Are there any recent shmups in this meet, say post-Mushihimesama Futari? I'd like to try those out. Otherwise, I don't mind demonstrating my Shiki II skills throughout the day.

As for Shiki II, I'm not interested in learning the character types that the Arcadia record holders didn't use. So I won't demonstrate those (sorry, IlMrm!). But with the other character types, what do you guys want to see from me? I'll use your requests to figure out how I should prioritize my time.

I don't know what the Arcadia record holders use, but I typically choose Kim Dae-Jeong with type 2 (adjustable) swords. Its probably too common, so maybe IlMrm has a better suggestion. I'm not great at this game at all, so any character ALL would be cool to see.

Hehe, I guess it helps that you and everyone else know what I use. Here are what they use:
  1. Fumiko (Type 1)
  2. Chibi Fumiko (Type 2)
  3. Roger (Type 2)
  4. Hyuga (Type 2)
  5. Sayo (Type 1)
  6. Niigi (Type 2)
  7. Kuga (Type 2)
  8. Kim (Type 2)
I sorted this list based on how far, from shortest to longest, the forum members here lasted for each character. This is just in case someone wants to see me use a character that's perceived to be hard to work with.

If anyone wants to see me beat a particular score, I'll consider doing that, too.

I'd be glad to make it as well, but hearing that it may be the last one does make it feel all sentimental.

Yeah, it'll be cool to see a clear with some of the more unused characters. I also use Kim 2, but I play just for pure survival. So it'll be neat to see some point milking techniques.

And of course I'll bring Futari 1.5, and I'll probably be spending a lot of time on Ketsui/DOJ. :D

Hey I know I'm pretty new to the boards but I'm in the Bay Area (Emeryville) and would certainly be down to meet fellow local shmuppers...I'll bring beer or pizza (or beer and pizza?).

I could help out with rides from East Bay as well.

Thanks for offering but I am sure Dave will mention this too that all these meets have been alcohol free. Plus we have a minor there now. Hi Felix! Keep practicing Espgaluda II at SFSU, I want to see a good run from you. :)

Oh I didn't know that. Well I'm down to bring anything else food/drink-wise or help anyone with a ride. So is the Shmupmeet open to anyone that wants to go? I've never been to one before.

LOL, I never thought about this, but the Shmupmeet would definitely be better with alcohol and strippers.

I will try my best to make it up there for this. My work schedule probably will hose me again. But if it doesn't, I'm gonna try to cruise up and attend. I've got to be able to say I've attended one of DaveK's legendary meets :) Anyone of SoCal planning on attending?
