Custom compiled MAME 0.122 (haven't played MAME for a while since my gaming laptop died) that has high score support and completely removes all the loading/error messages + the white frames. Looks better in my cab.

mame 126 command line, and advmame.
Just another question, where have you downloaded the scanlines.png file to emulate the scanlines in the newer versions of mame? Or have you created one yourself?
Thanks to all

Make them yourself. Mame was changed the way scanlines are rendered in v110 or so and now you need different overlay graphic depending on your screen resolution.

Get MAMEUI32, it comes with several options.
You can just take them out of the artwork folder and use them with your version of MAME.

WolfMAME was just not setting up for me...no UI, and I will only use the latest version (not the ancient one which was the last with a UI).

Mame32fx
For the auto-fire. If it wasn't for that I would still use command-line.

How does this one compare with mameplus or MAMEUI (formerly MAME32)?

I just started using mameui32 0.127 and... it's not saving my high scores. I have that highscore.dat thing but that didn't help any. Can anyone give me a tip?

MAME don't use hiscore.dat never more probably. I think save states replace it. I'm not sure.

Save states do indeed replace hiscore.dat. Non-hackery wins
