Popey on secuarlism

Post by Ed Oscuro »

OMG ARTICLE!1

A choice passage:
“What gave Europe’s culture its foundation — the search for God and the readiness to listen to him — remains today the basis of any genuine culture,” the pope said.

The pope spoke before 700 academics, cultural figures and the Muslim leaders at the Collège des Bernardins, a new cultural center in a 13th-century monastery, a location he called “emblematic” for his remarks.

“Amid the great cultural upheaval resulting from migrations of peoples and the emerging new political configurations, the monasteries were the places where the treasures of ancient culture survived,” he said.

He continued: “It is through the search for God that the secular sciences take on their importance.”
one of the few times I've felt compelled to yell SHUT THE HELL UP PALPATINE U DUNNO WHUT U ARE TALK ABOUT

I have no problem with religious people keeping their "truth claims" in mind, but he essentially seems to be saying that science is irrelevant without faith.

Religion is irrelevant period. Those nutjobs have to keep shouting at the top of their voices to keep everyone from noticing.

I remember that one; must have been at least 15 years ago. It featured John Paul II:

I really wonder where that came from. Someone on the net wrote that there was a punk song with that line, but I can't find anything. Maybe the t-shirt came first, and then this:
I like the Pope
The Pope smokes dope
He'll smoke it all
From skunk to rope
Or nugs and buds
That reek of hope
I like the Pope
The Pope smokes dope

A telescope
Reveals the Pope
Purveying evil's antidote:
The Pontiff is
No misanthrope:
He'll help you cope
He'll share his dope.

The bishops' vote
Elects a Pope
To lead the Church
And saints promote.
White puffs of smoke
Announce the bloke
Who'll sit and toke
Saint Peter's dope.

The dopin' Pope
Will take a toke
On any weed
That he can smoke
From joints or bongs
He'll hit and croak:
"I am the Pope ...And I smoke dope."

Why is everyone freaked out about the new collider? I saw a similar post in the Call of Duty X-Box forums. Are people really worried, or is it just cool to be scared of the mini black hole?

The Catholic Church have their best interests at heart, not yours.

Something about half the members universally ignore.
