I'm sure he ment the cd-ROMSheSaidDutch wrote:I'm sure he means the ROM. Sonic CD was only on the SegaCD console.

In other news, I bought a bunch of used software from a buddy back in 95 and wound up with a PC version of Sonic CD. For whatever reason, it wouldn't work right on my PC so I wrote to Sega asking for some technical support. Got a funny email back saying that the game hadn't been released yet and they were wondering how i had gotten my hands on it. Turns out my friend sold me a review copy of the game...heh... that was an awkward moment (on par with when I wrote to Jowood and asked if there was a way to bypass the copy protection in Traffic Giant because it was interfering with my ability to play the game).

Fun times, fun times.
Hey, I hear in the Gamecube version of Sonic Mega Collection Plus or whatever that there's a high res version of the SonicCD intro (the Sonic Jam version of the intro is at least twice the resolution of the SegaCD original, and I hear the Gamecube version's is even nicer). Anyone want to go ahead and vid cap it so that i can replace the one currently up on my site?

Actually, SEGA announced that there will be some hidden games in the collection, so I don't think it has been fully confirmed that Chaotix isn't in it. Also, if the GG games are the other half of the GG games, that means some great ones like Sonic 2, Sonic and Tails 2 (aka Sonic Triple Trouble), Tail's Adventure, and Sonic Drift 2 will be in it. BTW, the collection is coming to PS2 in Japan, but it seems to be coming only to GCN in the US.
According to Gamespot, Sonic the Fighters will be called by it's US name of Sonic Championship in the US version of the collection. Why does everyone refer to the game by its Japanese name Sonic the Fighters when it was released as Sonic Championship in the US arcades?
I played Sonic Championship and I think it's good, though not as good as Virtua Fighters. The game has the same problem as Virtua Fighter Kids (small limbs), but the fighting engine and actual gameplay are good and the characters are much cooler than the ones in Fighting Vipers.

Some levels in Sonic and Knuckles were in the Japanese Sonic 3, or so I heard. Do you know a place where I can find info on the Japanese/English version differences of Sonic 3? There should be a Japanese/English version differences faq at gamefaqs, but there isn't.

b) There's arcades in the US that stock second rate fighting games by AM2?
Seriously though, I've never seen the game in the US, never knew it got a US release, and never knew there was a second name for it. As such, I'll keep refering to it by the name that I've always known it as.

I'd like to see Sega do something ninja-tastic and slap Fighting Vipers 1/2 or Last Bronx into one of these collections. The games aren't that great, sure.. but it'd still be neat to get an arcade perfect port of them (I was miffed at how badly FV2 turned out

No there are no differences in the jap version of sonic 3. Originally sonic 3 and sonic&Knuckles were meant to be one game, but were eventually split.BrianC wrote:Some levels in Sonic and Knuckles were in the Japanese Sonic 3, or so I heard. But as they were meant to be one game, you can see the names of some of the sonic&Knuckles levels in sonic 3, if you do the level select code.
Sega's rereleasing Last Bronx and Fighting Vipers as part of their Sega Ages 2500 series in Japan...roushimsx wrote:I'd like to see Sega do something ninja-tastic and slap Fighting Vipers 1/2 or Last Bronx into one of these collections. We've already got Sega Classics collection over here that featured a lot of those - perhaps we'll get a part two featuring some more.
You're arguing for a universe with fewer waffles in it. I'm prepared to call that cowardice.
I knew they were redoing Last Bronx, but I had no idea they were doing Fighting Vipers, too. That's pretty hot, and hopefully they come out as well as Virtua Fighter 2 did on PS2.benstylus wrote: Sega's rereleasing Last Bronx and Fighting Vipers as part of their Sega Ages 2500 series in Japan...
I know I may be hoping against hope on this one, but that'd be awesome if the Streets of Rage remake didn't suck as bad as the Golden Axe remake

WOW, great scoop Kosh; thanks!Dylan1CC wrote:I browsed two pages in OT here and nothing so far on this. "Sonic Gems" for Gamecube was announced at E3. Finally a compilation with Sonic CD, R and the fighters (all 3 of which I haven't played).

To the Sonic Community, this news is about 3 months old. Mostly because Sega's fall from grace results in less people giving two shits.
But it's still nice that Sonic CD is getting another mass release.
For the record, I enjoyed Sonic CD for SOME of thel level designs and the Time Travel element.
Easily ups the Replay Value more than many of the other 2D sonics.
Also there seems to be an RSG-esque knocking of the game, as it doesn't seem as if everyone here has played it
.
Yeah, it's not quite the be all and end all, but it's still damn nice.
Also, the Japanese soundtrack isn't 'all that' as so many have said...it's filled with bad rave-ish music and irritating scat-talk.
but it really doesn't matter anyway

As someone who likes industrial music, that post made my cringe.

And I don't get what all the fuss is about regarding the JP music compared to the US music. They're both fine soundtracks that fit the game well. If Gamefan hadn't made a huge deal about it I doubt most people would care now (GF had a way of doing that...).
