Mega Man 8 on PSX & Saturn... & Rock Man Forte...
I’m going to try to complete Mega Man 8. I have both the Saturn & PSX versions. Apart from the PSX having better quality videos are there any other differences (Graphics, better gameplay, extra/secret levels) between the 2? Which one should I complete?
One thing I noticed is that the Saturn version seems to be a bit slower than the PSX version?! But I’m not sure…
Also the music to sound effects ratio seems to be a bit better on the PSX.
What do you guys think?
I have a modded PAL Saturn (Euro) & modded PAL PSX (Euro) & 2 USA copies of Mega Man 8. (Saturn & PSX)
I have completed all the original Mega Man games & the X series.
The only ones left are Mega Man 8 & Rockman & Forte (Mega Man 9)? Should I 1st beat MM8 or Forte? Or it doesn’t have any impact to the story line?
I’m seeking the ultimate story line-combo experience from the Mega Man Saga So your answers will be appreciated.

The Saturn version has two boss encounters (Cut Man & Wood Man IIRC) not found in the PSX version. Also, I have the Saturn 'collector's' version (I think that's the only one on Saturn), and it has the art gallery... not sure if the regular PSX rev has that. I think the overall screen size is slightly bigger / sprites are slightly smaller on the Saturn rev as well.
I think the music in the Saturn version sounds a lot better than the music on the Gamecube MMAC version (based off the PSX version), but I'm not sure how the PSX original music sounds by comparison.
Play MM8 first and then Rockman & Forte. A couple of bosses are recycled from MM8 for RM&F (with different attacks), but the game is overall a bit better, IMO, so if you play MM8 first you won't be disappointed. Also, RM&F comes later in the storyline.

Yes the Saturn version has the gallery & it's interesting that in the fan art postcards it shows 2 bosses: Pirate Man & Magic Man which they later appeared in Rock Man & Forte. Capcom copied the kids fan art?
I tried them both & the PSX version has slightly better music & the ratio between sfx & music is better. Also the screen & sprites are larger on the PSX & overall gameplay seems a bit faster on the PSX.
But I want to fight the extra bosses so I'll probably go with the Saturn version.
Also which one is harder?
For me it seems to be the PSX as I beat GrenadeMan on the Saturn with my 1st go, where as on the PSX I lost 3 lives. It could be incidental though.

Actually I'm just going to play the RM&F SNES Rom on Zsnes, with my PC connected onto the TV via TV out.
There is no way I'm gonna find RM&F SNES Cart, in this God forsaken part of the World I live in!
No I'm not gonna play the GB version, the music is not that good & game music is very important in my book.

Umm, the GBA version's only real problem is the fact that the sprites are almost to scale and less of the screen is shown. (though I think some of the slight alterations in the levels make up for it). The playfield seems to have been slightly altered ala Duck Tales and some of the GB b/w Mega Man games too (correct me if I'm wrong). The music may not be as good as the SNES music, but it's still great. Anyway, the GBA version is certainly a good port and can be found for peanuts. Even if it's inferior to the SNES version, it's probably only by a slight (and I mean very slight) margin. I don't see anything wrong with getting both...Neon wrote:For R&F, get the Superfami and not the GBA version. The GBA version is admirable considering the hardware it runs on...but the SNES version is still the best.
Well, the GBA version's graphics and controls are on par with the SNES version and, after trying the rom, I found out that the view wasn't cut off nearly as much as I thought. Still plenty of viewing room. About the only thing inferior in the GBA version is the sound. At least, that is what I got out of comparing the games. However, I should note that I don't think either version is the best Mega Man game ever. I definatly like the earlier games in the first Megaman series and the earlier Megaman X games better. I also recommend Megaman Zero over Megaman & Bass for a GBA Megaman fix (Where is that GBA collection with the 5 GB games in one cart, Capcom?). I'm not going to bring the Battle Network games into this since they are vastly different games from the standard Megaman games.
