STGT 2008 - Week #2 Voting (Caravan Week) +More Information!

Post by sikraiken »

PLEASE READ THIS ENTIRE POST

PLAY ALL THE GAMES FIRST BEFORE VOTING.

Here's some information/changes for you to know about:

We will be playing one game during Caravan week. The three games for selection are Dangun Feveron (Time Attack - accessed by holding A+B then pressing start after inserting a credit, no cat), Super Space Fortress Macross II (Medium Course), and The Game Paradise/Game Tengoku (Time Attack).

Both the voting and game week deadlines have been changed. For the rest of the tournament, both of them will be at 12:00am midnight Eastern Standard Time (which is the same time as 4:00am GMT).

Each voting week thread will be started on Thursday around the same time I posted this one (around 4pm EST or possibly a little earlier).

The week order has been finalized for a while - the dates are posted in the registration thread (a link is right under this paragraph). The game selection in each week has also been final, except for Doujin Week, which will receive one changed game (in place of Uwabami Breakers). That will be finalized soon.

--------------

The Voting deadline for Week #2 is Monday, September 8th at 12:00am midnight EST (4AM GMT).
http://wwp.greenwichmeantime.com/

Voting is completely private. Here's what you need to do.

Send an e-mail to STGT2008@beatthegame.net with the following required things:
- Your forum name
- What game you are voting for

While this is not required, please also add:
- WHY you are voting for the game you are voting for (your reason will not change the qualification of your vote, I'm just interested in seeing why people are voting for the game they choose. "I like this game" is not a reason, you can do better than that. "I like/chose this game because..." If you have trouble writing english, feel free to write in your native language.)

After you have sent your vote, you may not change your vote. You do not have to vote if you do not want to. You may not vote for other players (this also includes team mates). Your vote only counts if you send it to the e-mail address above. You must be part of STGT2008 to participate in voting. DO NOT PM me your votes.

I will be checking the votes two hours before the deadline. I will not be opening the e-mail account and looking at the votes before then. If there happens to be a tie (or one vote difference) at that point when I check them, I will announce that and extend the voting period for two more hours, allowing anyone who has not voted to have a chance to vote. I will not announce what games they are. Once there is a clear winner, the game will be announced.

Thread discussion:

DO NOT:
-Do not talk about what game(s) you are going to vote for or game(s) you are not going to vote for in this thread.
-Do not talk about what game(s) you might vote for in this thread.
-DO NOT STATE YOUR VOTE IN THIS THREAD.
(I hope this makes it clear what you should NOT talk about in this thread).

DO:
-Do ask questions about voting in general.
-Do ask questions you have about any of the games ("Why does this game suck?" is not an acceptable question, however.)
-Do ask any questions you have about the tournament.
-Do discuss anything that doesn't have to do with liking/disliking one of the game selections.
-Feel free to talk about your votes with your team outside of this thread (outside of this board).

Game Selection:

Dangun Feveron (Time Attack)

Image
Get disco men. Time Attack mode only; it can be accessed by hold A+B and then pressing start after you insert a credit. You CANNOT play with the cat.

Super Space Fortress Macross II (Medium Course)

Image
Get point item. Medium Course only. The only graphic glitch is at the end of the last stage and it will not affect gameplay.

The Game Paradise / Game Tengoku (Time Attack)

Image
Get eggplant. Time Attack mode only, you can choose any ship. There are unfortunate shadow issues with the game, but it's not a SERIOUS problem and you can get over it. There is also a Sega Saturn version of this game.

Unfortunately, no. They are supposed to just be shadows but MAME currently emulates them as duplicate images.

This isn't a game where you dodge bullets, you manipulate patterns. It's a nice time attack game, just like Dangun Feveron, or Macross II (not really time attack but it's similar) - if it was voted in, people could get used to it.

The bullets were easy to see in 19xx. Had you said Battle Garegga (without the bullet colors changed) I would have to agree.

I just find the image doubling to be extremely distracting.

I got used to it after a few plays. That's all else I can really say about it.

I see what you mean now. I guess I just read it wrong.

So why can't we play as Uo Poko in Dangun Feveron? Is it because of power reasons or is it to make the tourney fair for those that don't want to memorize and input the Uo Poko code every time they play?

Uotaro has a huge scoring advantage over the standard ships in that it does not need to powerup - this means it can get up to 999DM faster than the standard ships, and it can continue to get points from powerups and bomb items even if it dies (standard ships have to power up to max Shot strength and bomb stock before they can earn points from items). Not only that, Uotaro has a much higher Shot strength, probably 50% more powerful, meaning it can power through the stage.

Good call on banning Uotaro. It was either that or make it Uotaro-only.

I'm voting for Guardian Force this time. Then Final Soldier (man the MAME-only limitation hurts on these).

The Game Paradise - It's playable, but the graphics glitch is going to make it a bit of a pain to play and enjoy. Not sure about scoring possibilities, looks sound enough in that respect.

Super Space Fortress Macross - A fun but slightly linear game, scoring wise, that could actually be an advantage for a tournament lasting only a week.

Dangun Feveron - Scoring wise this game is immensely deep, but in one week how far could an average player go without knowing these scoring secrets? There's a real half mill wall you seem to hit until you know a few basic pieces of info on scoring.

Not trying to sway votes, I haven't decided which game to vote for myself yet.

I'm average at best (below average, more likely) and it only took me about three hours to break a million points in Time Attack. Dangun isn't that complicated.

I thank you kindly for that sir!

That gives me, and maybe others, a fighting chance if it gets picked.

We should totally play Uo Poko instead of some dumb caravan game.

That cat knows how to USE THE LEVER.

Hey guys, voting ends in about two and a half hours. If you've been procrastinating like I have, now would be a good time to send that email.
