Gunner's Heaven won't play on my PS2

I have a modded slim PS2(matrix infinity) and Gunner's Heaven always shows up as a PS2 game.

Will it just not work with a PS2, or is there a way around it?
All my other JPN PS1 games work fine on it, and Gunner's Heaven works fine on my modded PS1.

What's the deal?

It seems that MI's method of detecting PS1 CDs is a bit unreliable. Try holding the P1 circle button when you power on the PS2 to force PS1 mode.
