Any mods for the 360 out or coming out?

Post by evil_ash_xero »

With all these shooting games coming out, i'm really wanting to get my 360 able to play them.

Has anyone pulled this off yet, or is it being worked on? I'm really disappointed in the lack of mods of this generations' systems.

I wouldn't count on it. The only thing you can do with a modded 360 is play burns on it. Still no way around region lock from what little I've read. Even changing the firmware, which essentially kills your ability to use Live, doesn't get around it.

Maybe some day they'll figure it out if it's possible, but who knows.

Nope.

Don't count on it.
With firmware updates, online tracking, and the like, it is becoming far more difficult and less feasible for such to take place.

Such as life… better get that Japanese 360 soon, especially after this new price reduction. Count on demand in the west, especially on this board, to rise when Ketsui is realized.

Well, how many games tend to be region locked on the J-360?

I mainly have a lot of the big titles such as Namco, Tecmo, and the like.

How about Xbox games? Do many of those work on a J-360? All I have is Orta and NG Black.

XBOX360 Compatability Guide via Play-Asia.

Not sure about the original XBOX games.

If memory serves on MS's official site it says that to play original XB games on a 360 you need the regions to match, which would suggest that all XB games are region-locked, but they could be bluffing for all anyone knows. Has anyone tested that at all?

If mods allow playing burned games, then is it possible to rip a Japanese game, region-patch the ISO, and play it on a modded system?

edit: unless, the region data are contained in an area not usually accessible by DVD writers, or would require massive recompilation of the ISO.

Regions need to match.

Only North American Xbox original game I have found to work is Halo 2. Halo 2 appears to be region free.

North American Xbox 360 games from my personal library that DO NOT work on the Japanese console:

Grand Theft Auto IV
Rock Band

I'm not a 360 expert, but I think bypassing the region lock requires the kernel exploit that only exists in two builds. It's my understanding that there is a way to downgrade the kernel with an expensive mod that is difficult to install, but I don't know any of the details.

If you mod, what are your going to do when you get your red ring of death and you cannot send the system in for the usual repairs?
Some of the best shmups don't actually end in a vowel.
No, this game is not Space Invaders.

Are you being serious, or just bashing 360? I don't think anyone is going to be modding much of anything if it doesn't allow us to play these import shooters on the 360s we already own.

I think you guys should just get a japanese 360 and if you can't have 2 360s or are short funds just sell the US one off.

Honestly there is not much US stuff locked.

here are the US games I own and play on my japan console.

Sega Rally
Ninja Gaiden 2
Mass Effect
Bioshock
Gears of War
Halo 3
Splinter Cell DA

I've played the US versions of

Devil May Cry 4
Soul Calibur 4
Lost Odyssey
Tales of Vesperia
Lost Planet Colonies

there are probaly some i'm forgetting.... but as you can see you options are FAR more limited with a US console. EVEN if a US title is locked, an asian version is released in english for less than a US game. 50.00 dollars with shipping equals out the same as a US game with tax.

I have an american live account that i use on my japanese system for ALL my games, including arcade download games. It's all universal, I play online with my japanese copy of armored core 4 answer on my US live account all the time along with other japanese games also.

If you are a shooter fan then a japanese 360 is the only option for new stuff so far. You are better off with a japanese console, like I said you are WAY more limited with a US console than a japanese one.
