Tales of Vesperia is teh awesome.

Post by jp »

For seriously. Great game. The only other one I played was Tales of Symphonia, and while it was kinda cool... the characters weren't all that interesting.

But in ToV, the plot is awesome, the characters are damn good (Yuri is one of the best JRPG protagonists ever), the gameplay is actually better/tighter, the graphics are omgsoawesome, and the music is REALLY good as well. And even the world and the various locales about it ooze with quality. AND the dubbing is good too!

Good shit! If you don't have it, I highly recommend it. :)

So, how's the battle system? Is it fully 3d like symphonia/abyss, or is it along a 2d plane? Are there bonuses for crazy combos?

*sigh*

This is the one game exclusive to the 360 that I really want.

Do the cinemas and cutscenes ever tone down. I hate those, and it seems like it has about twice as many as Symphonia. Caused me to "take a break" or better yet "i'll sale this later".

Pretty much everything is pointing at it being a timed exclusive.

You can move around in 3D if you hold down the left trigger, otherwise its on a 2D plane.

I doubt it. Sure, that garbage Eternal Sonata went multi, but Ace Combat 6 and Beautiful Katamari both remain exclusively on the 360, and both of those had "Whoops! Accidental PS3 listing"s as well.

And if Microsoft has any sense at all (which is debatable I suppose), then they would've thrown decent money at Namco to keep it on the 360 in hopes of helping out sales in Japan.

Eternal Sonata seemed pretty good from the demo I played of it.

Anyways, they would have to throw a lot of money at Namco to keep it only on 360 as Namco would be forfeiting a lot of money in Japan by keeping it exclusive.

I'd personally be pretty surprised if it stayed exclusive as practically nothing does these days, but I guess we'll see.

Thats what everyone says. But then you actually play the game and... ugh. It sucks so bad. It has ONE redeeming value, and thats the music. Everything else is just garbage.

The 360's got plenty of console exclusives still to come; I'll be surprised if it does get a PS3 port. No Blu Dragon and no Lost Odyssey, either. And Star Ocean 4 as a 360 exclusive. Things don't bode well for PS3 owners who love RPG's, IMO. I'm still excited to see more on White Knight Story, for the PS3, but that's one RPG.

Though honestly, if ES had remained a 360 exclusive, I would still be cursing the 20 or so hours I sank into that game. It was fucking horrible.

I preordered this from Play-Asia. From what I've seen, it's pretty good. I would have preordered the US version, but someone said it was region locked. Turns out, it works with JP consoles too.

Although it has inferior box art. So I'll wait for the Asian English release.

Hey JP, how did you like Infinite Undiscovery? IGN gave it a 7.1

If you've got a PS2, I definitely recommend picking up Tales of the Abyss. I didn't care much for Symphonia myself, but TotA is one of my favorites for the console. The characters are great, and while the story starts out a bit cliche-ish, the plot, fairly quickly, throws a curve ball at you, taking the cliche and turning it on its head.

TotA, like Vesperia, also lets you move around freely (after gaining a skill near the beginning of the game) during battle by holding down one of the buttons. That was one of my biggest gripes with Symphonia's battle system.

And if you haven't played them, try the PS1 titles, Tales of Destiny and Tales of Destiny II (actually Tales of Eternia). While I prefer ToD's characters (especially Stan, Rutee and Mary), ToD II's combat feels smoother.

I'm glad someone else finally noticed the trolling. Thanks! :)

dave,

Here's what I posted about Infinite Undiscovery on my message board dealie:
"I put a little bit more time in it. Thankfully I read the 1UP review, which, unlike IGN's typical drivel, was actually informative.

So, thankfully, I understand what I'm going through isn't the norm. Its still really weird though.

And honestly, "really weird" is the best description for Infinite Undiscovery. Its very unlike any JRPG I have ever played. Its like, a JRPG hack'n'slash action game or something. Its neat, and there are certainly a lot of neat ideas floating around here... but I'm just wondering if its all going to hold together.

Also, the entire premise is kinda lame (in so far as the main character and why he's involved). And the main character is really lame as well (like, WOW, you are fucking dumb) and I REALLY have a hard time enjoying JRPGs when the main characters suck (see: Every Final Fantasy after VI, Eternal Sonata (since Chopin, the ONLY decent character in that game, ISN'T really the main character).

I don't know. There's promise. I'm still testing the waters. IU is going to be on the back burner for a minute though while I finish up Tales of Vesperia, so it could be a little bit before I can give accurate impressions.

I will say the graphics are weird. Like, you can tell they're good, but the lighting in the game is fucking horrible, so everything looks like shit. Its really bizarre. Animation is really wack too."

I'm not trolling since I didn't say anything that wasn't true. It just has to be more business-like. Like "jp is extremely biased against Sony products don't trust everything he says about a product. Especially if that product is in another console."

I personally feel that people should know the perspective this kind of thread is coming. And it comes to me as in-your-face "this game is great and especially since it's only on the 360."

So thats why you follow me around crying whenever I praise some random 360 game that happens to be good?

Also dave, I played some more IU tonight, here's the thoughts:
"I keep feeling compelled to play this game. And I don't know why.

In fact, I have no idea WHAT to make of Infinite Undiscovery. Its really unique... like, INSANELY unique. I can't think of anything like it. But its story and characters are anti-interesting. But the gameplay stays so fresh that its hard for me to not play it.

I actually ignored ToV tonight because I just felt like playing IU. IU has a lot of really neat ideas... there's a lot of "meat" in the game, its just that the story, the world, and the characters just do nothing for me."

I would make a thread about it but I don't want to completely ruin UFO's week or something.

I just saw GaijinPunch announce in the Otomedius thread that it's now changed to TBA. And wasn't Raiden IV coming on the 11th? I think there was a delay somewhere there.

Anyway, at the moment I don't have Gold. Sorry.

Because you often keep putting everything else down in the process. Kinda hard to believe you when you sing the praises of the 360 as the supreme king of the universe.

What did I put down in this thread? Or the Star Ocean thread you pitched a bitch fit about?

All I said that in this one was that it was better than Symphonia, which is the only other entry I played.

I didn't even say ANYTHING in the Star Ocean thread aside from, "Eh, Star Ocean is coming out."
