Could we get a little information, or at least a screenshot? I've never even heard of this game.

What do the red and blue balls do? I just got 2,108,480 and 726 destruction but no where near Aru-san's score.

Believe it or not, yes, it is. How you can get to that is entirely up to you. If you're really desperate, I'll post it on my blog.

EDIT:

Challenge
[Better Score TWO]: Aru-san - 5,685,440 - 567

I'll post up scoring treatise and impressions on my blog this instant.

Challenge
sikraiken - 9,534,100 - 444

Scoring well pretty much involves dying constantly (and properly at first; not immediately) to make your ship explode into a bunch of dots so you can keep picking them up. Eventually when your weapon is maxed out your dots will get maxed out too and you just keep dying, grabbing your dots, and repeat.

Make two score tables for challenge - one for score, one for destruction rate.

Try that on Arcade or Endless.

Challenge
Aru-san - 6,653,870 - 537

Got this score using the technique sikraiken mentioned. Though I was not able to max out my power OR my dots, I managed to get to the final power level to rack up this much.

Edit: HOLY CRAP.

If sikraiken breaks 40 million [before I can reach 30 million], I quit.

My strategy changed a little, but it still involves dying a lot and using the secondary weapon.

Taking a break from Challenge. Saving myself some scoring sanity here. Don't wanna end up like that danmaku guy that quit on shmups because he got too hooked up on scores and whatnot.

A replay on how sikraiken scores so damn high on Challenge would help, too...or at least a small treatise on how often to die, WHEN to die, and when is a good time to deploy the second weapon.

You need to figure out when to die and when to use your 2nd weapon. :D

Crap. Shot myself in the foot.

I'll wait until I'm really desperate, then. :D

That might be the danmakugata guy, right? If so... well, he should've really focused more on the epic value and just play a couple of them to 1cc or reach the end.

Anyway, gonna take a look to this game now!

Thanks for the video. Looks like I've been dying WAAAY too less in my runs. I've only been able to score 9.5 million tops utilizing your technique of frequent deaths, but I never knew the deaths had to be THAT frequent. Now all I need is to master the art of suiciding and pull off three Barret Shots in one run. From the looks of it, I think 32 million is aboust feasible. Anything higher like 40 million would require 4 full Barret Shots which would probably be really difficult, if not impossible, considering the time you have.

I'll still be taking a break from Challenge Mode.

Aru-San, try the Arcade Hard or Endless mode. Quite neat.

In fact:

HOLY SHIT! This is the coolest stress reliever shooter available. In fact, it actually rewards you for dying (ok, you have to but at the right place and time =P) so you just have to keep firing and tear the freaking hall.

Extremely addicting too... And I love the fact that the secondary weapon turns the player into a bullet spewing boss. Finally some payback dammit! The patterns are pretty, fast, no slowdown, no remorse, no refuge. ARGH! *collapse*

Image

So yeah:

Arcade Normal
Observer - 183.099.160 - 18:42:33 - all - 93% (Add the destruction rate too?)

Thanks for pointing out this game!

First attempt (I shit you not).

ARCADE - NORMAL
Icarus - 329,267,900 - 20:17:93 - ALL - 91%

I reckon you can get over 500mil in Arcade Mode, Normal difficulty.
The game's quite easy once you get up to speed, though.

By the way, does anyone know what determines your progression through the Darius-ish powerlevel grid? Some of the final levels are pretty useless, some of them are awesome for scoring.

EDIT: Actually, scratch that. Following on from the above, on the second credit I discovered a very bad design fault that leads to a very easy scoring exploit, and the result is that the score counter in Arcade Mode can technically be counterstopped at 999,999,990, if extra digits aren't added (which I doubt, given some of the design flaws in this game). Not only that, I can get the game to the point where it crashes because there is so many powerups generated upon a death that it cannot cope - on the second run testing my ideas out, it crashed on stage4, when I died twice and spewed so many powerups that Windows kicked me out of the game, with 705mil on the board.

Arcade Mode is broken for scoring. Looks like Challenge Mode is the only worthwhile mode in this game.

By the way, if you guys want to record replays, FRAPS works with this game.

EDIT2: Red and blue pods affect the powerlevel grid - if you have more red powerups when you level up, you go up the grid, and if you have more blue ones, you down down the grid. While it's an interesting take on powerlevels, some of the maximum level attacks are completely useless. I think the amount of bullets you fire affect the Bullet Bonus counter - the Hibachi-style screen-filling attacks seems to score a lot better than some of the spread attacks.

You don't lie. The thing crashes (I assume it's because the object count goes way up when you die for the engine to manage it and create the orbs? Personally, I got a crash in Stage 6, towards the middle when it gets full of orbs and enemies) but I feel the Arcade mode is the redeem and the vengeance for all the lost matches and lost runs in other shooters.

It's just SO DAMN addicting to fire up and sit for 18 blasting practically everything on sight without the annoyance of dying and because the attacks actually let you become some sort of surreal Hibachi (or Stone-Like or whatever the TLB is). The song Screaming for Vengeance comes to my mind.

I'm recording a short run and will have it uploaded soon.

A six minute video from the end of the run is encoding now.
I think I'll play something else.

Well, after reading this thread I decided to unzip the thing and try it out.

I got 14,751,290 on my first Arcade try (less than 1M on Challenge first try), and about 15 minutes. Lost all my lives at the first boss that uses the boss 2 music (during that boss stampede rush thing).

special tips 4 beginners:
- enemies try to confuse you with bullets, don't let them
- pick up orbs but not bullets
- make some moar replays so I can get better?
- lives counter is a dirty liar

At the very least I got some neat new music, woo!

Never have I been so satisfied with ramming into bullets.

Also I had over 100 lives when I beat the game.
