The Motivational Thread

Type in a goal and a time frame you plan to have it accomplished by. Then, follow up and tell everyone how you fared.

Here's mine:

Short term:
- Pass the Cisco SNRS (Securing Networks with Cisco Routers and Switches) test. In 1 - 1 and 1/2 months.

- Pass the JLPT2 (Japanese Language Proficiency Test level 2.) I've been studying since June and the test is coming in December, so I still have 3 months to prepare. In 3 months.

Long term:
- Obtain CCSP (Cisco Certified Security Professional) certification (consists of 6 tests. 5 more to go.) In 6-8 months.

- Pass the JLPT1. If I pass the JLPT2, I'll be going for the JLPT1. The tests are once a year so hopefully next year. In 1 year and 4 months (tentative.)

Very Short Term - Do well in phone interview scheduled to happen in 40 minutes

Short Term - Get a job and pay off terrifying overdraft.

Long Term - Do MA, while working to finance it.
- Move to London
- Do Teacher Training Course

I broke it down to life goals and shmups goals

Life goals:

short term - sell my car and start investing/saving 25% monthly income - 1 month tops.
long term - learn at least intermediate level spanish and french; and maybe more language(s) - 1 1/2 years.
longer term -save enough $ for a worldwide trip lasting 1-2 years. 3-4 years.

Shmups goals:
short term - finish STGT08
med-term - get Egret II or New Astro City - 2-3 months
very, very, very, long term - stop dying in shmups - approx. 99 years.

Long term: Try to be more artistic.

Good luck with Spanish alone. Some of the verb stuff totally baffles me. Interestingly, I've found out that sometimes it is not necessary to understand a lot of grammar stuff. I've never understood the use of some verb forms in English, but I can use them pretty well by following my instincts. That kind of ability, however, is something that develops over time and if you're in an environment that encourages that kind of thing. Being in a country with nothing but native Spanish speaker will make you really good in no time.

Short term:
Survive my first semester of college. (Now - Mid-December)

Less-short-term:
Start learning Japanese grammar and kanji (I already know both forms of kana). (Now - whenever)

Mid-term:
1CC Mushihimesama ULTRA.
Graduate from college.
Oh, and getting a cab and some PCBs would be awesome too.
I also want to become fully fluent in reading, writing, and speaking Japanese.
(Now - 4 years from now)

Long-term:
Get a decent job and settle down, I suppose. (Now - )

Graduate college with my 3 degrees (1 year).

Long(ish):
Get my masters in Math while teaching at school so its freeeeeee!

Longer(ish):
Dunno. I have a job offer for when I'm done with school... but I don't know if I want to move or not... though the job offer is quite awesome... but still. At least 3 years away, so eh, whatever.

You can practice creativity every day. People who say that being more creative is something they´ll realize somewhere in the distant future usually never get around doing it. Seize the day, dude!

(I say this because I´m a lazy bum not following my own priorities far too often and instead just play videogames and, well, surf the internet.)

Do you get to study discrete mathmatics? It would have helped me in my programming I think. Also maybehaps a course in logic...
