Warblade

Post by Tony Gradius »

This is a shareware PC shmup and it`s excellent. Imo it`s the best game in the Galaga vein, even better than Galaga 88. The demo version has 25 levels, then the game loops and repeats from the start but with increased difficulty. The homepage says the full version has 100 levels. Can anyone cornfirm that? I just played the looping 25 level demo till "level 86 ". Will order the full version soon...

I wouldn't doubt it, although I haven't played the full version to be sure.

For anyone not in the know, this game is a PC updated version of the Amiga classic Deluxe Galaga, easily the best Galaga clone ever made.

I could swear looping the trial version doesn't have any effect on the difficulty. Few months back I downloaded it and got bored at level 100 or so...the game is good, but once you get the slightly more powerful weaponry (the third or fourth most powerful) it's much too easy to just keep on playing as long as you want. This is the poster-child of a game that needs a rank system based on how powered-up your ship is.

Don't know if they've tweaked it for the full version, though.
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

If it's the same as Deluxe Galaga, the difficulty is just based on the level you're on. So if the full version has 100 full levels, it should get rather hard towards the end... in DG you basically needed the most powerful weapons to survive on the last levels (as even if you're good at dodging, if you don't destroy the enemies fast enough, the Time Up ship comes out and shoots homing missiles at you).

Well, actually it is remarkably faster than the first loop. Not sure for the second to the third loop but for the first to the second I`m sure.

What is really remarkable about this game is it`s playability. Just reached six hours of playing since I installed it last week. Which is a lot. Never reached that in Thunderforce V, which I own for years.

sorry to resurrect an old topic but i thought it was better than starting a new one.

just found this on the net, what a great game especially for $20/£10 definitly worth that much of anybody's money. the option to play your own music in game is mint and it even auto-detects your joypad. Net highscore ranking is a nice touch too.

Deluxe Galaga on Amiga was one of the best games on the system. It could had easily been sold as a commercial game back at that time.
