Playing Imports on a Genesis/Sega CD
Playing Imports on a Genesis/Sega CD
I've been reading on the different ways to play imports on a Genesis (for the record, mine's a Genesis 2), but I have found much information on playing imports/modding a Sega CD.
What, if any, are the different options for modding a S-CD, and does anything need to be done to Genesis to play import CD games?

The CD + works fairly well. The problem is that it costs more than a Mega CD unit.Goongrave wrote:I have something called CD + PLUS "universal mega-cd adaptor" that is a cart you punt in your genny and that I think should make you play import games, am I wrong?
Yes.TLDragoon wrote:Which brings up another question: will a US Genesis attach to a Japanese Mega CD?
Why can't it be discussed? The way you handle this "simply" is mod the mega drive to be multi-region (bit of work on the board and if you want the carts as well you need to tweak the slot
) then all you need to do is fit a multi-bios to the mega cd and you can switch between different regions. Simple... if you can solder reasonably well

El Problema esta en que las reglas de el foro no permiten la discusion de como copiar discos usando un lector de CD y como usar un parche para cambiar la region de discos Sega CD. Y quemar a CD-R.tyranid wrote:Why can't it be discussed? Don't hold grudges. GET EVEN.
No it doesn't. The two only check their regions against their respective software. I've hooked up a US Genesis to a Japanese Mega CD 2 and both units worked perfectly.Specineff wrote:But it will not work. The Genny looks at the region of the SCD, and if any of the three don't match (Genny, SCD and SCD game) region-wise, you're screwed. I may be able to help. Stay tuned.
As far as I know, that's not normal behavior. I don't have a Japanese MCD2 BIOS in front of me to check, but I'm pretty sure that it does a region check of the attached console and will reject anything other than a "domestic" (i.e. Japanese) console.Kiken wrote:No it doesn't. How many times have you actually taken a Japanese MCD unit and attached it to a US Genesis console? I've done it several times with different units and the results were always identical, the two units ran just fine.Ex-Cyber wrote:As far as I know, that's not normal behavior. Tototek Megacart
I'm surprised no one has mentioned this as a solution:

I run a genesis2/segacd2 combo and just put this cart in the slot, hold down a button on the controller to pick a bios and viola. I boot any region and no need to modify any hardware.
BTW I'm a longtime lurker, first time poster, and a horrible shmup player. Hello to all.

Now see, I had a feeling that PAL units would not be compatible with NTSC ones. But I can guarantee that the NTSC units are interchangeable.Ex-Cyber wrote:It may be that the Japanese BIOS doesn't check the Genesis/MD region, or only rejects 50Hz systems. It was years ago that, um... a friend of mine cracked the region lockouts for the MultiBIOS, so I may have forgotten the details.
