Check this out. Footage from one of the finalists from the Dream-Build-Play competition (Microsoft XNA). Kickass bossdesign and Neo Contra style gameplay.

This is cliche, but that would have played and looked better in 2D. The gameplay is all 2D and it's just hampered by all the screen blurring/jarring effects.

Could be fun though, who knows.

Looks great (that boss face and reactions are amazing plus towards the end it pulls a Tageri and starts launching laser missiles and full guns) but the motion blur is a bit over the top and doesn't let the player see jack shit at times.



A bit offtopic:
Speaking of XNA... This japanese dev (who also worked for Gungrave apparently) is making what seems to be a space shooter on-rails:

The homing missile test is already giving away this might probably be like Panzer Dragoon meets deep space and missile barrages+huge battleships.

Not to mention having the perspective throw off movement along the top of the screen (that's why the player stayed out in front nearly the whole time).
