Sanvein
I saw a video of this a few weeks ago and it looked interesting. I know it's part of the Simple 1500 Series, and it's one of Agetec's cheapo games. Does anyone know anything about this "shooter"?
Here's a good start. FWIW, I like the game and it's worth more than the $3 it sells for new in the U.S.

I believe that Sanvein was programmed with 6 people in mind. I'm one of them. I found one Sanvein fan page in Japan... so that's 2. There's another 4 fans of this game somewhere...
In all seriousness, the game is so odd that it doesn't appeal to most. But being cheap, it's worth it just for intro, let alone to strip the audio files from it.
I'm still in the process of writing my FAQ for Sanvein.

I'm not quite at your level Kiken - I haven't 1cc'd it yet, but I get pretty close.
You're arguing for a universe with fewer waffles in it. I'm prepared to call that cowardice.

There were two people who did the music for PSX Sanvien...
I'd have to say that originally Sanvien was going to be developed for the Taito G-Net arcade platform at the time just as Psyvariar Medium Unit was being developed at the same time by Success Corp. The head honchos decided it was best for Psyvariar MU to be released as a Taito G-Card for it's two-year old G-Net system (at the current time) and had Sanvien regulated to the "back-burner".
Now here's an interesting tidbit, two Success music composers did the BGM tunes for the Sanvien game also did some music for the Psyvariar MU game as well. The name of Tetsuro Sato (aka WASi3O3) did compose most of the stage BGMs of Sanvien but didn't do the end boss music. There's one stage BGM's of Sanvien that sounds very similar to the beginning of the intro theme music of Psyvariar MU shmup and it was indeed done by Tetsuro Sato.
Even the Options Screen of PSX Sanvien has the presentation as that of the Taito G-Net options screen setup.
Hidden trick of Sanvien: By simply pressing "Start" to pause the game when playing a session of Sanvien, you can freely move the 1st person-view perspective camera around the player's ship using the should buttons and the analog stick (as the playfield is 100% 3-D polygonal) for some cool views!

bought it for $7. played it a couple times, interesting concept. i love the strategy behind choosing a path in the levels (you get stronger as you surround other sections). not worth it in the end though. kinda would like to give it a spin again, but i can't find my copy. oh well. guess i am not one of the six.
I have no sig whatsoever.
What, you don't like killing every enemy, instead of only most enemies?
It seems as though most shmups are "kill most enemies, then kill a boss [or not]," repeat, so...
I got into it more when I was stuck at the house with nothing to do most nights, but I never figured out the system until Kiken explained it to me [particularly since the instructions in the manual are COMPLETELY wrong]. The only thing keeping me from playing most shmups is that I have to fight Kiken for console time

i'm the 4th ^^; my only complaint is the stages are too short, and you only hear the first few seconds of a rather phenomenal soundtrack. my personal favorite track is the BGM of the "Outer Wards" (stage 3 by default). the floor select music did become a pain. otherwise, this is a decent game, definitely worth the $3 i paid for it, and i actually kinda dig the 'Tron' look. ^_^Kiken wrote:I believe that Sanvein was programmed with 6 people in mind. The Reverb option is pretty neat too. Although the criteria for unlocking it can be a little tough to meet (25000.0 pts.)
And blatant Engrish aside (wtf is a "Gaugu"?), the presentation for this game is very nicely done. It definitely dosen't look like a $5 game.
-HOW TO CONTROL YOUR MACHINE
Your machine can move in eight directions with the directional buttons...
-ATTACK POWER
Your machine can move in eight directions with the directional buttons...

Edit: This game is also one of the funniest moments I've ever had watching my stepbrothers play. Usually they're pretty clueless when it comes to shmups but this took the cake.

Hmm, actually, ARE there any racing shmups?

You know, Minzoku, you don't need the internet to ask Kiken questionsKiken wrote:Shippu Mahou Daisakusen (Kingdom Grand Prix).Minzoku wrote: Hmm, actually, ARE there any racing shmups?Like, Spy Hunter, I guess... that could use a steering wheel.

I dont' think it's really a shmup, it seems closer to Smash TV.ST Dragon wrote:Don't like it personally.
Shooting bastids in confined space isn't my idea of having fun in a shmup.
I love this game, but I don't know why. It's extremely repetitive and not very deep, but there something about racing against the clock that keeps me coming back. Worth the entire $3!
Are we talking Robotron / Black Widow style of play here? If so - I should look this one up.ST Dragon wrote:Don't like it personally.
