Fair enough, I deserve that. Just thinking of graphics: I can play my S. 1999 PCB on an RGB monitor and that allows me to appreciate the game's strengths visually, and I have no 19xx PCB available for comparison. But from what I've seen so far, I have no intention of getting one.Icarus wrote:Strikers 1999.professor ganson wrote:Ha. No, really.

Didn't mean to offend. If people like the game, I'd love to hear about its virtues. I've spent a whole 30 mins. on the game, and am willing to believe there's more to it than meets the eye. I might even spend another 30 mins. on it this evening, even though I'd much rather play Sengoku Ace.Ozymandiaz1260 wrote:Fuck you people

I'm pretty sure that should only concern people who can all-clear the game in a week, because otherwise it makes more sense to just try surviving for one more stage rather than start from the beginning after messing up midway through.Shatterhand wrote:I know 99% hurts your score, even more in the long run. Surely. THat's why I said 99% here wont hurt you as much as in VP1, and the score system isn't as frustrating. I can see how 99% would hurt your score comparing to 100%, but unless you are going for a top tier score, it shouldn't be a concern indeed. Also, 95% will give you exactly the same as 99%, so it makes it even less frustrating.moozooh wrote:I'm pretty sure that should only concern people who can all-clear the game in a week, because otherwise it makes more sense to just try surviving for one more stage rather than start from the beginning after messing up midway through.Shatterhand wrote:I know 99% hurts your score, even more in the long run. Looking by the results from day 1, I think we will see a fair number of 1CCs before the end of the week

I wasn't talking about anybody specifically, and I was mostly being silly. It's just that every tournament we have here everybody feels the need to complain about every game, usually even if it's the game they voted for...professor ganson wrote:Didn't mean to offend. Plus, 19xx really is a really fun game. I bet you'd like it if you gave it a real chance. Playing new games is one of my favorite parts about these shmup tournaments

I take it your not a drum/bongo fan?professor ganson wrote:I love Capcom, but there's no charm or style here whatsoever. Just blah.
I think the complaining is part STGT tradition, and the fact that people don't like being told what to do (you must play this game for 1 week!). I'm glad I'm not in it this year, so I can keep a soft spot in my heart for 19XX.Ozymandiaz1260 wrote:It's just that every tournament we have here everybody feels the need to complain about every game, usually even if it's the game they voted for...

I'm sure it depends on the version of MAME, but with Mame32 Plus I just left the display settings on defaults so it comes up rescaled to the proper 3:4 with large black bars on the sides (4:3 monitor). With 4:3 CPS games like Street Fighter II (or if playing a 3:4 game rotated for TATE) it would be rescaled to fill the screen completely.how do you guys play 19XX (or any other CPS 1&2-game) in Mame - fullscreen (i.e. kinda ugly compressed to 3:4) or w/ black borders?
If you don't like the rescaling (I usually avoid it actually) then you'd need to a pick a suitably weird resolution or adjust the picture size to make it the right shape. Something like 800x480 should work OK for TATE.
The screenshots come out 224x384 despite any of this.

Yeah, for the people who did do it anyway. : ) I'll definitely do it after I get out of classes today.nZero wrote:I'm looking forward to this.sikraiken wrote:I'll be making a thread later tonight with all the reasons people gave for their votes (I won't be putting names, but if you'd like to say "hey, I wrote that," you're more than welcome to).
