Soukyugurentai: Original vs. Otokuyo

Post by BazookaBen »

I did a search for info on the two versions of terra diver diver on saturn and I found this quote from Nemo: "I have both Saturn versions and I like the original release better. It does have mangled text before you fight bosses if you use a PAR 4-in-1, but most other text in the game is converted to English, which is especially important if you want to read the text after you beat the game."

So, if I understand things correctly, as long as I don't press start during the intro to the original version, the graphical glitches won't appear, but I can still read the story text in english? I don't care that the boss warning text is messed up, because I can't read japanese anyway. If that is the only issue then I would go for the original, I won't mind not being able to skip the intro.

I have Otokuyo, and I'm happy with it. I was thinking about buying the original version too (just to add to my collection, and to see if it has redbook audio), but now this topic has me thinking twice. Should I skip it and spend my money on something better?

Thanks for the reply Nemo, but I went ahead and got the Otokuyo version on ebay today since it was cheap. Maybe I can find a script for the story somewhere.

I'm definitely looking forward to this, so far Rayforce has been my favorite saturn shmup.

ST-V to Saturn ports always generate their music internally. There are 4 tracks of red-book audio from Soukyuugurentai on the CD though... the other 40+ tracks are from Mahou Daisakusen, Shippu Mahou Daisakusen and Battle Garegga (the tracks for Battle Garegga are slightly different than those found on the actual Battle Garegga disc).

Yeah, I've listened to my Otokuyo in my CD player once, and knew right away that it wasn't the full audio from the game. So does the same go for the original version too?
