Which version? There appear to be quite a few. I assume the US/JP versions are either fine? They have the same... number after them, as listed at my... source.

Edit: I've downloaded a whole bunch of 'em, including what I'm fairly sure is the main rom (since it's 7+megs), and... It's missing files or something.

Varth doesn't have percentage-based bonuses.
The percentage-based bonus isn't that bad. Well, not that bad after last year Viper Phase 1. I must admit when I first noticed the game had this percentage bonus, I went like "NOOOOOOOOOOO ITS VP1 ALL OVER AGAIN", but it's really not *that* bad.

I voted for 1943Kai, but either Kai or 19xx was good enough for me, both games are pretty good. Varth in the other hand I am not the biggest fan of it.

And I bet the oldschoolers voted for Varth instead of 19xx. Tsc tsc.

You can't "strategically" vote when voting is done privately. :p
Anyway, you should know me by now, I'm happy with any game chosen. And it is always funny listening to people complain about the selection.

I know I didn't. I'd rather drill rusty and dull screws into my testicles than play that game for a week straight.

I challenge anyone to name a more generic shooter than this. I love Capcom, but there's no charm or style here whatsoever. Just blah. Enjoy!

My foolproof strategy this year is to not vote. That way no matter what terrible game we get it isn't my fault.

Yeah but you don't have to worry about getting a harder pattern (bullet barf) because you didn't destroy the right turret in time.

I take no responsibility for the game lists in week 1-4.

You can all thank Mike for those.

Ps if you think 99% doesn't hurt your score potential very much you are so so wrong. Figure out how the scoring system works to find out why!

[2140.21] <Twiddle-0> i really don't hate 19xx so much but goddamn the potential pisses me off so badly

How can people not know the scoring system? It takes all of 5 minutes to figure out. :?

Should have listened to my totally non-facetious suggestion of further cutting the number of game choices each week to 1.

Seriously though, it's win-win-win.

1) shortlist guy can't complain since he decided all the games, doh
2) people could see the list of games pre-tourney and decide if they even want to play at all, instead of finding out they hate all 5 games (bsidwell) or DDP isn't selected (Prom) or they have sand in their vagina (GP) and wasting everyone's time
3) eliminates these dumb boring in-between voting weeks that make the tourney last forever (2.5 months) instead of barely over a month (5 weeks)

STGT would then have the same ruleset as Macaw-STGT or SDAAT aka paragons of awesome. Oh yeah, if people really want to vote for false sense of empowerment (works for tasvideos lol), there could be a pre-tourney vote for all 5 weeks.

Another great suggestion is sikraiken locking the thread when he posts the vote winner.

Ooh, I like 19XX quite a bit.

Granted, *it* hates *me*, but still, lol.....

Either of the other 2 games woulda been fine with me as well, though Varth's zillion levels woulda been a bit of a strain.

Allright then, guess it's time I get crackin with this one.......

I found myself enjoying it despite myself...and the percentage bonus thing isn't as aggravating as I might've thought; I cleared stage 3 with 99% on my run.

Ha. No, really. This game is so generic they put variables in the title! Note to arcade managers: just fill in the blanks as you wish. They won't know the difference.

END OF LEVEL BONERS has ruined pretty much every game that employs it. Turrets are pretty easy to avoid if you just play a second credit and don't get hit by them next time.

I know 99% hurts your score, even more in the long run. (7 100% would probably give you like 2.5 millions more than 7 99%) But is anyone getting 100% at every level, or restarting when failing to get 100%?

99% here is isn't 1/100 of the frustration that was in Viper Phase 1.

[I don't want to spam the STGT2008-highscore-thread so I ask my question here]

how do you guys play 19XX (or any other CPS 1&2-game) in Mame - fullscreen (i.e. kinda ugly compressed to 3:4) or w/ black borders?

most of you post highscore-pictures of 19XX that are in the "correct" resolution (224x384) but therefore look badly outstreched - do you actually play this game in that deformed way?

for the round objects in 19XX to appear perfectly round the screen-proportion would have to be 224x336 (in some other CPS 1&2-games 224x320) - can/do you force Mame to put out this resolution(s)?

*still in my first days of discovering the wonders of Mame* :)
